I loooves them wide open spaces
notes from Klamath Falls and beyond
Perfect, cloudy weather. 35° is not so cold here. And the views!!! ahhhhhhhh—elbow room.
See? Wide Open Spaces. That is north of the lake near Fort Klamath. Good country. Long views. Open groves of aspen and conifers around the edges. Dark, rich looking soil. Not a lotta rocks in evidence in the fields.
Those are hay fields. Lotsa water—most of it frozen, now.
Around the edge, before the ground rises very much, are groves of trees, widely spaced and parked-out. Good riding country.

I even found a little place. Might need some work....
Then there is the Lake… [looking east from the north side]
And the gooses. Piles and piles of gooses! and swans… and pelicans… and ducks… and bald eagles… and, and, and....
And in summer there are ‘midges’—tiny green non-biting insects brought in to quell the ‘skeeters. Word is that one must hose off the radiator daily, or more, to keep from burning up. They gather on the windowsills in piles. Oh, and there is a Horsefly Management District office. That cannot be good.
The town is on the way up—cleaning up and signs of some new businesses. I saw absolutely *no* bums. It gets to be 19° at night.... The residential areas of the town… Some pretty old houses that in CA $100K. There are actually houses—not falling down 3 walled “quaint” properties under $80K. Haven’t seen that in I dunno how long.
‘Course there is rather a large summer teeth contingent. Speed busts in the paper regularly. [not the going-too-fast kind...]
The hunt continues . . .
