You're not helping!
becoming the ‘other guy’ means the ‘other guy’ still wins
This ‘debate’ over how to reconstruct the [R] party has reached the point where Teh Stoopid is running off the walls. The debate was to be expected; after a big loss it always happens—on both sides. But this ‘debate’ seems to be led by the Madison Avenue geniuses who came up with ‘Clear Coke.’
Their goal seems to be to dope out what the ‘winning formula’ is, file off the serial numbers and run with it as their own. “Drop the ideology, don’t be so uptight, go for the ‘Big Tent’.” So many [R] pundits, columnists and talking heads seem to be advising [R] to become the opposition it might make one guess that they care more about running out in front of a market trend to look like winnahs than about contributing to the ever-present and all-important discussion of how to best run this nation.
Phooey. Time to dismiss ‘em. *slap*flick* Time to quit listening to crappola like this:
Paul Krugman: The Big Hate
[ if this linky pops up with a registration demand, justglooglesearch engine “The Big Hate” and you’ll get it all] [works with every NYT article]There is, however, one important thing that the D.H.S. report didn’t say: Today, as in the early years of the Clinton administration but to an even greater extent, right-wing extremism is being systematically fed by the conservative media and political establishment. ...
...they have gone out of their way to provide a platform for conspiracy theories and apocalyptic rhetoric, just as they did the last time a Democrat held the White House.
[I guess Chimpy McBusHitleraburton and the Lizard People Must Die was a rational meme and they really were listening in on your cell fone calls to Grandma.]
And at this point, whatever dividing line there was between mainstream conservatism and the black-helicopter crowd seems to have been virtually erased.
Bla bla bla O’Reilly bla bla bla Beck bla bla bla The Washington Times
...when Mr. Limbaugh peddles conspiracy theories — suggesting, for example, that fears over swine flu were being hyped “to get people to respond to government orders” — that’s a case of the conservative media establishment joining hands with the lunatic fringe.
So tell me, Mr Krugman; has an administration never in the history of the US evah put out spun, flavored, partial or downright false information in an attempt to “get The People’s minds right?” Is that your contention? Srsly?
You’d only need to back as far as Bush to find reams of examples. Was Wag the Dog “joining hands with the lunatic fringe?” Try dipping into a little history of the Depression years and sample some of the ways The People were sold on the New Deal. Or the WWII Propaganda Department and the folks jailed for disagreeing. History is a smorgasbord of examples. It’s what gubbments do.
See: Nixon.
I imagine I could even find examples in previous Krugman columns, were I to have the patience and gastric fortitude to dig. But in your brave new world, I see that calling gubbmint on it’s “spin” is now “joining hands with the lunatic fringe” instead of “the job of The Free Press?” rly? rly?!?
Piffle. I suggest we simply start to ignore those who speak foolishly. When they call us “lunatic fringe” or The R Word, we gotta call them on their intimidation tactics. No sane discussion was ever held between people who were name-calling. That behavior is a clear flag telling ya that that person is no longer interested in creating a better way forward but only in “winning” through any means he can find. Like picking up a rock and bashing your head in—linguistically or politically speaking, of course.
When you see a little feathered creature that says “Quack” why would you allow someone to browbeat you into calling it a baboon? Nonsense. Likewise, when you check and research, compare with historical actualities and the constants of human nature and remain rational, dealing only with the facts, why would you let someone browbeat and name-call you into calling an amateur with delusions of adequacy a “Messiah?”
When did [R] win? When it was unabashedly and proudly Conservative. When it stuck to clearly defined Values from which it derived Principles, Strategies and Tactics.
I believe there are enough rational people in this country who would welcome a clear statement of Conservative Values: self-reliance [respect for their capabilities], smaller gubbmint with lower taxes [respect for their hard work, time, and life’s energies], free and privately owned market-driven economy [respect for their ability to make good choices and contribute to the good of The Whole by making good choices for themselves as individuals]. Moe than enough to get this train back on track. Folks are sick of being called incompetent and told they need monitoring at every waking moment by other folks supposedly better than they are. That’s just not in the American psyche.
Here’s an added benefit: people who would respond positively to that message come from every demographic, class, race, and little splintered group that has been created over the last decades of Identity Politics. How’s that for a Big Tent, eh?
---
Aside: And what’s the deal with all the keening over the Latino vote. “Latino” covers everyone from the gang-banger psycho deep in the LA barrio to the family with a thriving restaurant they work 16 hours a day to the guy who’s been working 40 hour days for two generations to make his ranch or farm profitable and stay a step ahead of the bank and the state water rationers. You gonna tell me these folks see the world the same way?
That meme begs for the R word—Retarded.
Next step: the Census, aided by those big-hearted men and women from ACORN, who will be interested in what radio stations you listen to and how you vote.
Nobody pays any attention to Krugman. On the other hand, I saw (somewhere - unconfirmed) that “they” were thinking of getting DNA samples from Everybody, in order to help fight AIDS.
“... the Latino vote ... covers everyone from ...”. Same for the “Catholic vote” - they voted for pro-abortion Obama. Same for the “Jewish vote” - they vote largely for Democrats, who would be just as happy to see Israel go away.
