VDH - Californian

Why are so many Americans so depressed about things these days? It is perhaps not just the economy.

...We also are wearied by a certain crassness in American society in ways we have not seen before—or at least since the mid-19th century.

...We are depressed and listless and angry also because I think that we fear we have lost all sense of calibration.

...We sense we are trimmers and redistributors, and wouldn’t dare build a new dam a transcontinental railroad, a new 8 -lane freeway.

  1. VDH: Do not despair, as long as humans are making things from dirt and fire (*your* phrase, Claire; and a damn good one, too!).  Take a look at the blog Next Big Future.  Things are a’cookin’, and A Change is Gonna Come.  Changes, actually; and the forces unleashed by those Changes are big enough and bad enough and Just Plain Good Enough to erease anything Bad that Teh One might enact.

    IMHO of c ourse!
