Didn't someone once say "Justice delayed is justice denied?" I guess that's not about us, though... This is the kind of thing that makes my inner-20-year-old want to hit the streets with absurdist signs and surreal costumes and make some waves!! Crimminy!! I hate being told I'm incompetent. If I wanted that kind of treatment, I'd join the EU. Go see Xrlq to learn which little-known provision of the 14th amendment was used in the "decision." [*mumbling to self* Idaho? nah - too much snow..... Nevada? nah - too hot.... Oregon - too weird...... Washington? too many disenfranchised Caleefohrneeahns..... From the "decision:""They [the State] have asserted the need to conduct the recall election within the dictates of the California Constitution, but this is more properly weighed in the manner courts normally weigh it- as a public interest argument against enjoining a specific election even in the face of an equal protection violation, rather than as an interest justifying the use of poor equipment as a general matter." Translation: your right, as a citizen, to have the recall accord with your constitution, is not an affirmative constitutional interest.

1. Am I missing something here?  A quick scan of the ruling gives the grounds as:  the mandated new voting procedures cannot be gotten ready at the time of the scheduled recall election, so the recall will have to be held at the regularly scheduled election in six months.

   Perhaps I’m missing something, but this doesn’t seem all that unreasonable to me.

3. What seems unreasonable is that this was not done in time to prevent all the counties from spending the money to hold the election.  Now that money is simply wasted.  Like we can afford that.  And what the hell is the Southern Xian Leaders Conference doing here in CA mixed up in this action?!?  And if the punch cards were good enuff to re-elect Greyge—why aren’t they good enuff to un-elect him?
   
   Wasteful silliness of other people’s money is what this seems to amount to.  Perhaps we should invalidate the lase regular election since punch cards were used then???

   Is not a court able to direct specific action?  Why did they choose to flush millions of $$$ instead of directing that the six [6] counties in quetion simply upgrade their equipment in time for Oct. 6 ?!?!?!?!?

6. Claire. Not only the Southern “Christian Leadership” crew, but Jesse “Gimme all yo moneh” Jackson and Bill “I feel your ass, I mean pain” Clinton. Would it be rude to go to their appearances with a sign that says, “Go the fuck home you interferring power hungry, carpet bagging idiots?”

   Oh, and Schwartzeneggar is a no win. McClintock can do it. We need to get behind him. I am not willing to wait another six years for a decent governor.

7. In Santa Cruz we’ve got Greg Kihn as the local morning DJ of the “classic rock” station out of San Jose (I cannot find ANY decent radio down here, not even a classical station!)—Geez, what a Geezer!  He’s electioneering very blatantly for Schwarzenegger.

   The delay will work against all the candidates except the incumbent.  Those ads that quote the LA TImes (Now there’s a competent news source for you!) to the effect that when the laughing stops California will have to live with the results—itsn’t that exactly why the recall is taking place? Didn’t so much like the results of the last laughing academy election?
