Under Siege

Everything You Do...

I never got the whole plasma/flat screen giant TeeVee thing—Heck, I barely get TeeVee anymore [’cept for crab fishin’]—but it appears that those who do are the next group to come under siege.

A gas used in the making of flat screen televisions, nitrogen trifluoride (NF3), is being blamed for damaging the atmosphere and accelerating global warming.

...The gas [NF3], widely used in the manufacture of flat screen TVs, is estimated to be 17,000 times as powerful as carbon dioxide.

..."We don’t know what’s emitted, but what they’re producing every year dwarfs these giant coal-fired power plants that are like the biggest in the world,” [Professor Michael Prather] said.

“And it dwarfs two of the Kyoto gases. So the real question we don’t know is how much is escaping and getting out."

No, the real question is “Whatinhell are you talking about?!?”

  1. “... 17,000 times as powerful as carbon dioxide.”

Or it could be 25,000 times as powerful as a gardenia…

    From Wiki:

“... In this application NF3 is broken down in to nitrogen and fluorine gases in situ, ...”

So this icky nasty stuff breaks down in the etching process into plain old nitrogen and the stuff they use to fluoridate toothpaste.

The enviro-nuts keep looking for things we simply must do away with.  I wouldn’t be surprised if they found something in beef chili that’s poisoning the Earth.

    Well, maybe those atomic chilis....
