Considering Faisal Shahzad had a BS in computer systems/info science, I believe he was aware of the IntarToobs.  Considering he had a MBA, I believe he was aware of the value of researching a business model.  Considering he also graduated a terrorist training camp in Waziristan, I believe he passed Bomb 101.

So tell me again, why the Scotts Turf Builder?  The hipster-retro alarm clock, mis-set?  The valve left closed on the propane tank?  Was the choice of a Pathfinder hiply ironic?

Is he just poor Acccchmed Coyote with his Acme Bomb Kit?  Or might there be something more?

  1. Interesting question.  I hadn’t thought of that.  Maybe it’s supposed to inspire confidence that this guy got caught.

    On the other hand, if he’s only a rank amateur, we should have been able to catch him with our eyes closed.

    Well, I’m somewhat comforted that we can catch rank amateurs.
