[Teh iWon:] “These rituals remind us of the principles that we hold in common, and Islam’s role in advancing justice, progress, tolerance, and the dignity of all human beings. Ramadan is a celebration of a faith known for great diversity and racial equality.  And here in the United States, Ramadan is a reminder that Islam has always been part of America and that American Muslims have made extraordinary contributions to our country. And today, I want to extend my best wishes to the 1.5 billion Muslims around the world – and your families and friends – as you welcome the beginning of Ramadan.”

“Always”?

...In 1960, aside from the temples of the Nation of Islam, the only mosques in the United States were in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Dearborn, Michigan, and Washington DC (which opened in 1957) - - and all three professed less than 200 active members. Four other cities contained miniature mosques with less than fifty members. ...

“Always"??!!?

...In 1786 Thomas Jefferson, then US ambassador to France, and John Adams, then US Ambassador to Britain, met in London with Sidi Haji Abdul Rahman Adja, the Dey’s ambassador to Britain, in an attempt to negotiate a peace treaty with the Barbary Pirates based on Congress’ vote of funding. To the US Congress these two future Presidents later reported the reasons for the Muslims’ hostility towards America, a nation with which they had no previous contacts.

”...that it was founded on the Laws of their Prophet, that it was written in their Koran, that all nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as Prisoners, and that every Musselman (Muslim) who should be slain in Battle was sure to go to Paradise.”

  1. Always -
I have heard that the first mosque in the US was built in the 1890s.
    Oldest still-in-use synagogue, 1763.

  2. Oh, well, OK then.

It is being reported that Pres. O spoke to reporters today and states that when he said building mosques is OK he did not mean the one at Ground Zero. And if you believe that you probably believe that he wants to repeal the recent healh-care (hah!) package.

  3. “... and the dignity of all human beings ...”

If we accept that as true, we have to conclude that to Islam, women are not human beings.

“... American Muslims have made extraordinary contributions to our country.”

Of course.  There’s the U.S. Postal Service, started by Imam Ben al-Franklin; the telephone, invented by al-Exandr ibn Bell; the automobile, mass-produced by Hasan al-Ford; and let’s not forget the airplane, invented by the brothers Mohammed and Yusuf ibn Wright.

Then there are all those Nobel Prizes in physics, medicine, and chemistry won by Muslim scientists in Islamic universities.

Does the President think we are all fools?  (That’s a rhetorical question.)
