The Uday Award

There has been a new development in a completely horrifying situation in our neighborhood. On the night of April 26, person or persons unknown rammed their truck through a locked gate, drove trough a muddy pasture, and rammed through another locked gate far from any public road. In that next pasture they found two horses and several cows with their calves (little babies.)

There, they proceeded to chase a 23 year old mare around the pasture, with their vehicle, until they hit her with their truck, tore her apart, and killed her. Then they left. And hid.

The mare, Gentle Song, was the pet of a 13 year old girl. "There were also cows, calves and another horse in the pen,...leaving the family to wonder whether it was Gentle Song's friendly and curious nature that made her the target."

From evidence at the scene, sheriff's deputies said that the truck, or trucks, involved would have severe, noticeable damage.

Now, finally, two men have been caught and charged. "...felony charges that could result in as long as three years in jail and fines up to $20,000."

Frankly, I am sorry they were caught. I had been hoping some of the good ol' boys and girls around here would have gotten to them first and given them the punishment that is due. There is no "cure" for this kind of sickness except a deep grave waaay in the back, near the state park. As it stands, given the severest penalty, these sub-human monsters could be back out and among us within 3 years.

The effect on the neighborhood has been strong. I almost scared the pants off my boarder when she went to feed her horse late one evening after the attack on Gentle Song. She hadn't turned on the barn lights, and even an I-won't-eat-anything-with-a-face type knows the sound of a shotgun cocking. All I said was, "who's there?" [eyelash bat - *g*]

The other development in the story came from KGO radio news: they are "looking into" charging the host of the party where these two soul-less scum-buckets had been drinking that night. Now that's the absolutest mostest dumbest ignorance of the concept of personal responsibility I can imagine. The only thing that host is guilty of is having psychotic friends/guests. I cannot figure out how they are going to make this cruel and sick attack excusable with the "oh, he was just drunk" line. If we've gone that far in the public sphere; maybe it is time more responsibility is taken in the private sphere.

  1. Tell me where to meet you waaaay out back,
& bring a spare shovel. Gentle Song is now in Spirit & suffers no more. I pray for the young girl’s healing, & for *real* justice.
