This was after they pled guilty.SACRAMENTO—A Sacramento federal magistrate judge stayed his order for the release on bail of Umer Hayat, the Lodi ice cream vender charged with lying about his alleged terrorist connections.
The U.S. attorney’s office is appealing U.S. Magistrate Judge Gregory Hollows’ order Tuesday that Hayat be released on $1.2 million bail and be placed under house arrest in his Lodi home.His 23-year-old son, Hamid Hayat, is charged with one count of terrorism and two counts of making false statements to agents.
The Hayats, both U.S. citizens, have pleaded not guilty to all charges.
