Thank You Mister Wizard!
RIP

From 1951 through 1964, Watch Mr. Wizard delighted young viewers with the joys of science on a set built like a simple workshop. Herbert would demonstrate experiments using household items and encourage kids to “try this at home."
...Herbert was a drama major in college, but his plans changed during World War II when he enlisted in the Army. As an Army Air Corps officer, Herbert flew 56 bomber missions and participated in the invasion of Italy.
[While] it was Walter Cronkite and his detailed coverage of the space program that helped cultivate my wonderment about the universe, it was Mr. Wizard who helped me to think empirically about it. He made science something I could grasp, opening my mind to ask about, rather than take for granted, the physical world. And he showed me how to test what I observed. It is the first rule in the handbook of thinking.
Mr. Wizard beats Cronk any day for the week… and twice on Sundays. Why can’t we have more programming like that today. I’d trade “Myth Busters” for Mr. Wizard anytime!
