“Whatever I say is always lawful,” Gov. Blagojevich said.
*

Gov. Rod Blagojevich and his chief of staff John Harris were arrested today by FBI agents on federal corruption charges. ...simultaneously at their homes at about 6:15 a.m.

Blagojevich and Harris were accused of a wide-ranging criminal conspiracy that included Blagojevich conspiring to sell or trade the Senate seat left vacant by President-elect Barack Obama in exchange for financial benefits for the governor and his wife.

..among other “Chicago Way” actions.

  1. I suppose it’s obvious to Illinoisians, but the news stories leave out the Gov’s party affiliation, except for a small mention in paragraph 68.

To be charitable, I’d say that this is more an example of typical Chicago politics than of typical Democratic politics.

    But not much more.

Arrested at 6:15 am?  Man, that’s cold.

    From the Tribune story:

“The breadth of corruption laid out in these charges is staggering,” U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald said in a statement.

    No it isn’t.  It’s Chicago.
