HANCOCK [NY]-- Saturday was a day of congratulations and goodbyes for 60 women who attended the 25th annual Banaatun Noor International Ladies’ Summer Retreat.
For the past 30 days, the women and young girls—ages 13 to 25—from all over the country learned about Islamic studies, cooking, knitting, embroidery, poetry, calligraphy, quilting and other skills.
...The retreat’s main purpose, Rashid said, was to teach skills the women could take home with them. “The concept is to be as self-sufficient as possible,” she said. “The simple things are often better."
