We may be seeing a re-primitivizing of war away from the organized, structured state-based model to something more feudal and harder to control. RTWT
whatcha t’ink?
Let me preface this by saying that I served in Vietnam, am a lifelong Republican, and voted for Dubya twice. However, we clearly screwed up big time in Iraq—whether we were lied to or just fed fairy tales to get us there is immaterial now. Further, we simultaneously ruined our Army and exposed our biggest weakness—we don’t have an effective military strategy against unconventional warfare. The blogger seems to suggest that we should use the Air Force on Iran. If we’ve learned anything since World War II, it’s that that kind of bombing is not productive. (It certainly didn’t stop North Vietnam.) Not only will it invite maximum retaliation from Iran, it will be an international disaster.
I hate it that the only options we seem to have in Iraq right now are continued futility and withdrawal (okay, victory or cut ‘n’ run). However, the whole thing has reeked of incompetence and arrogance from the very beginning. I read today that Dick Cheney, despite all the evidence to the contrary, still believes that Saddam and Al Quaida were linked. Good grief.
