Revulsion Compounded

Here's a part of the story about how those pictures came to be on 60 mins. According to the story, Ivan Frederick is upset that his son was about to be held responsible for acts that any moron knows are illegal, immoral and distasteful in the extreme. Frederick knows that there are photographs circulating among soldiers. He goes to his brother-in-law, William Lawson who, in turn, goes to David Hackworth. Hackworth, jumping on this like a duck on a corn sandwich, immediately puts Lawson in touch with the 60 mins crew and *bang* breaking story. And yet;

It is still not entirely clear who leaked the photos and how they got into the hands of a "60 Minutes II" producer.

[registration/password = blogreader] Ok -- no implications there... Further lack of implications;

The irony, Mr. Lawson said, is that the public spectacle might have been avoided if the military and the federal government had been responsive to his claims that his nephew was simply following orders.

"Irony" ???? Here I always thought it was called blackmail. Oh, and the "just following orders" crap didn't work at Nuremberg and it still doesn't work. Not to mention it is rather more than a bit disgusting in its own right.

"The Army had the opportunity for this not to come out, not to be on 60 Minutes," he said. "But the Army decided to prosecute those six G.I.'s because they thought me and my family were a bunch of poor, dirt people who could not do anything about it. But unfortunately, that was not the case."

Admission? You decide. Oh, and the Army "decided to prosecute those six G.I.s" [no apostrophe, dumbass] because they acted like a bunch of poor dirt people who could not recognize honor if it were spelled for them. ThanQ! Andrea Harris

  1. Claire - if that is the case, I hope that he is brought up on charges for attempted extortion!
