Political discussion with the in-laws over dinner
...there's a good idea
After a conversation with 'Popsk' yesterday evening, The Mister and I got to wondering what could have changed the outlook of the most militantly individualistic, anti-government, anti-organized-
anything, independent
SOB fella we've ever known. Popsk was a logger in his youth -- you
know he never declined an opportunity for a fight. He is also very well educated and well read, accustomed to quoting Jefferson and the like.
Last night he was quoting Thoreau. He told me that Bush is fascistic. That Bush has done nothing but make the terrorists
madder. [?!?] That corporations are eeevil -- he oughta know, he worked for 'em for years. That Republicans only tax the working man and the economy has never grown under a Republican administration. It was as though he was reading from the Moonbat Talking Points memo.
He even said he liked listening to the BBC. When I pointed out that it is a state tool, he said, "That's right -- it's not a corporate mouthpiece."
As we waded into the muck around the Swift Boat Veterans, Popsk told me the bit about one of the guys recanting his story but was completely unaware of the connection with the Boston Globe reporter who wrote that story and the Kerry campaign/book. He cannot hear the part about if the guys weren't on Kerry's particular boat but on the next boat over, they can still be said to have "served with" Kerry.
He told me that the"guy behind the Swifties" was the same guy who started the rumor about Clinton doing away with Vince Foster. [I can't make heads or tales of that -- anyone? halp?] When I mentioned George Soros, et al, he developed Sudden Temporary Deafness Syndrome. [STD]
[In the midst of all this I overheard The Mister, who started the whole discussion in the first place, lean over to his brother and say, "I got used to watching TV while I eat so I got this started as free entertainment." ] [*smack*]
As we were debriefing on the drive home, it struck me that, although Popsk has always been a news junkie, skeptical by nature and eager to know the whole story, he is severely limited in the information available to him. There is the local paper, [a subsidiary of the NYT] TV, [un huh] and radio, which he listens to mostly in the evening -- when the Moonbats are out.
Also he has the habit of leaving the radio on all night. I think all that Moonbat mumble is seeping into his brain while the logic filters are asleep. . .
I guess this is another post about how the Lovely Interweb and the Blogosphere are changing the information flow in the world today. Now, if you will excuse me, I've got some things to research and email to Popsk. Mebbe, at least, I can get him to read Drudge...
[suggestions welcomed]
.
More: and what the Kerry Question all boils down to remains:
Thirty-six [36] years ago, Kerry spent 4 months and 12 days in Vietnam -- an activity which hardly qualifies one for POTUS. He spent 20
years in the Senate -- an activity which speaks directly to many of the qualifications for POTUS. Kerry is
only talking about those 4 months and 12 days. Why?

If I could get people to read things, I’d make everyone read Thomas Sowel, especially “The Vision Of The Annointed” and “A Conflict Of Visions”. Got a couple of bad links to those on my blog right now, I think maybe I’ll switch to that Barnes and Noble affiliate thing.

I love Blogs too, anybody can say whatever they want and it is taken to be factual.
Did you know that John Kerry was in rehab three times from 1970-1982 all for opium.
