*placing fingers in ears* "la la la la la la"
Seriously, now. Why are we still hearing demands for Bush, et al, to account for the lack of Saddam / Al Qaeda ties and WMDs? This story, ©ed by The Ottowa Citizen, datelined The Sunday Times, London August 10, and published on Canada.com makes things pretty dam clear.RAMADI, Iraq -- Al-Qaeda terrorists who have infiltrated Iraq from Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries have formed a deadly alliance with former intelligence agents of Saddam Hussein to fight their common enemy, the U.S. forces.
The alliance, known as Jaish Muhammad -- the army of the prophet Muhammad -- is believed to be responsible for increasingly sophisticated attacks on U.S. soldiers.
The U.S. confirms it believes al-Qaeda is operating in Iraq. Paul Bremer, the civilian administrator, said the military had found strong links between al-Qaeda, other Iraqi groups and guerrilla attacks that have so far killed 55 U.S. soldiers since Mr. Bush declared major combat operations over on May 1.
[Although their use of the moniker "Mr. Saddam" brings on a bout of cognitive dissonance. Sounds like a despotic hair stylist.] Well, I guess this is what we've been practicing patience for. From the Herald Sun datelined Crawford TX, August 9:
"A senior al-Qaeda terrorist, now detained, who had been responsible for al-Qaeda training camps in Afghanistan, reports that al-Qaeda was intent on obtaining (weapons of mass destruction) assistance from Iraq," the White House said in a report.
"Iraq agreed to provide chemical and biological weapons training for two al-Qaeda associates starting in December 2000," the report said.
"Senior al-Qaeda associate Abu Musab al-Zarqawi came to Baghdad in May 2002 for medical treatment, along with approximately two dozen al-Qaeda terrorist associates.
"This group stayed in Baghdad and other parts of Iraq and plotted terrorist attacks around the world."
The report, quoting the US State Department, also says the fallen regime of Saddam Hussein "provided material assistance to Palestinian terrorist groups, including the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command, Hamas and the Palestine Islamic Jihad".
I guess all that is left for critics to say is "nuh huh!" ThanQ! The Smarter Cop
