TRIPOLI (AFP) - Libya blamed Italy for a deadly riot that left 10 people dead and Rome’s consulate in the city of Benghazi ablaze, the deadliest protest yet against the Prophet Mohammed cartoons.
On the TandV, they’re showing the Nightshirt Boys burning a flag—a flag made of synthetic materials with the aid of spray cans.
An official statement issued after the demonstration said: “Libya denounces and stigmatises what an irresponsible group did on Friday and which in no way reflects the feelings of the Libyan people.”
The communique “reiterates Libya’s firm position against the aggressions that Islam has been subjected to."
