Out from under the bed at last!
no, the Jon Stewart thingie doesn't count, m'kay? I thought you might enjoy some of the highlights of today's Diane Sawyer interview with Johnny ManTan.on the Republicans constantly quoting him "out of context:" "That's why I look forward to this debate, because it's an opportunity to be able to really let the American people know the truth and know where you stand."
Which "you?" Do ya mean Diane? Do ya mean you-you? Do ya mean -- who, exactly, am I gonna know more clearly?
In the ad, Kerry is quoted as saying "I actually did vote for the $87 billion before I voted against it." "But it reflects the truth of the position, which is I thought to have the wealthiest people in America share the burden of paying for that war. It was a protest. Sometimes you have to stand up and be counted, and that's what I did,"
"It was a protest?!?" You chose a vote on whether or not to fund the troops as the ideal place to make a protest against the tax system?!?!? So just to hell with the fighting man, let him use a pointy stick -- you gotta make a protest. Gotcha.
"But I would not have gone to war knowing that there was no imminent threat, there were no weapons of mass destruction, there was no connection of Al Qaeda to Saddam Hussein. "
Neither would have Bush, you cretin. But as that is not the case perhaps you could answer the question?
"My goal is to get our troops out of Iraq."
Ok. That's clear. Not "to win." Not "victory." Not "to have Iraq be self-governing." Not "to bring some semblance of stability to the region." Not "to kill terrorists." "To bring the troops home" so that they can fight terrorists on the streets of Cleveland and Miami and Fargo and Truth or Consequences.
"The prime minister and the president are here obviously to put their best face on the policy," Kerry said following Allawi's address. "But the fact is that the CIA estimates, the reporting, the ground operations and the troops all tell a different story." "I'm not attacking him [Allawi]. I'm not attacking him at all," Kerry said. "He's a strong man. I hope he's successful. I'm going to help him be successful,"
*sigh*
