In Ramadi, Fallujah and Tikrit , armed groups distributed leaflets warning Al Qaeda not to attack polling stations. Bearing the signatures of groups claiming loyalty to deposed President Saddam Hussein, the leaflets instead called for mass voting.
11 million of the 15 million registered voters turned up at the polls. That’s 73 percent turnout.
