I guess what my kindergarten report card said still applies; “does not work and play well with others.” This whole foo-farah about Coulter’s remarks was weird to the max, what with the ‘conservative’ bloggers rushing *cough* to denounce her, self-flagellate, and then commence to flagellating the other bloggers who didn’t join the denouncearama. The big hurry was about beating the nutroots to it, I guess.
One thing puzzles me, tho. Whatinhell does whatever Ann Coulter says—as a pundit and humorist—have to do with, well, anyone else? Much less any candidates?
I can see how an organization who invited [hired?] her to speak might perceive a little blowback—especially since she is known for outrageous statements. But isn’t that why they hired her—she draws media like Monet drew water lilies. But. Coulter is known for making outrageous statements—like last year’s “raghead” remark speaking for this same organization, yet they invited her back. So who didn’t this coming?
I gotta admit, last year’s CPAC and any kerfluffle over Coulter’s remark did not stick in my long term meme-ory, but I hardly recall a formal list of denouncers. [correct me here, someone]
I am unsure why I am being flagellated and I’m really unsure why I oughta give a hoot respond do anything. I really do not comprehend whatinhell any statement of Coulter’s says about me. Or, for that matter, any statement by Romney or Kennedy or McCain. Their statements might have an effect on me *cough*trashing first amendment*cough* *cough*trashing borders*cough* but they’re not about me.
There’s that “what if she drives voters away?!?” thing. If any knothead refuses to vote for, say, Romney, because of something Coulter said, he’s probably too dam dumb to find the floor with his hat anyway and would would likely end up voting for Algore. Best of luck with that.
Same logic: I won’t vote for HillaryBelle because Keith Overbite says lunatic stuff on average every eight and a half minutes. Non-relevant: I won’t vote for HillaryBelle because HillaryBelle is a power-mad marxist—no matter how much stupid stuff Chris Mathews says.
But even more, it’s that whole “what does this say about the movement” thing. Ucch—“the movement.” Sounds like that lock-step of little grey men all heading in the same direction, all thinking the same thoughts, feeling the same feelings, responding in unison and listening to the same thing on their iPods. *shudder* Sorta like what’s expected of ghey men or black folks. “Stay on the rez or we’ll kill ya ourselves!”
It was my impression that being conservative was about standing for the idea that the individual is the most important part of a civilization. That supporting the independence of the individual is the only goal of government, or the only reason to bother with the mess. That respect for the capability of the individual—his ability to think for himself, gather his own facts and information, and support and fend for himself and his own family was the underlying Value.
I don’t wanna be part of a moo-vement. I don’t wanna be held responsible for what other people say. I don’t wanna because I don’t think it’s even possible. And when someone rushes in feeling obligated to denounce the statement of another because he is trying to control the behavior of a third—that’s just too nutsy for me.
