As a member of an unrecognized minority—people of low blood-pressure [LBP]—I like salt. And have been advised to eat lots and lots of it. By actual Doctors. With degrees ‘n’ stuff.
In fact, I just found a pretty glass dish on ebay to hold my salt lick.
Aside from some folks with a particular kind of heart problem who need to control blood volume, it’s really difficult to overdose on salt. A healthy body will process the amount of salt it needs and the kidneys will dispose of the rest. Anyone paying the least amount of attention will note that they don’t have a taste for it if they’re getting enough.
The real deal here is to get us accustomed to having the gubbment making our most personal decisions for us. Because when the gubbment pays for the collective, Individual Freedoms are just in the way.

Salt?? Pfui!!! Salt is no big deal (well, except for the fact that there’s about a half-pound of it in a can of soup).
The real villain is high fructose corn syrup. That stuff is in almost everything, from ketchup to soft drinks to barbecue sauce to ... (you name it).
Given the current scare over obesity - especially over fat kids - you’d think they’d turn their sights on HFCS.
Then again, the “salt lobby” probably isn’t as well funded (or well-oiled) as the corn lobby. It’s certainly OK if our kids turn into waddling rhinoceroses, just so long as we grow lots and lots of corn.

Seems like the “No Child’s Fat Behind” scare is just about not getting out to play enough.
