now *I* have been made to feel offended unsafe—by their inability to think

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Officials at the Ohio State University are investigating an OSU Mansfield librarian for “sexual harassment” after he recommended four conservative books for a freshman reading program.

...Scott Savage, who serves as a reference librarian for the university, suggested four best-selling conservative books for freshman reading in his role as a member of OSU Mansfield’s First Year Reading Experience Committee.  The four books he suggested were The Marketing of Evil by David Kupelian, The Professors by David Horowitz, Eurabia:  The Euro-Arab Axis by Bat Ye’or, and It Takes a Family by Senator Rick Santorum.

Savage was put under “investigation” by OSU’s Office of Human Resources after three professors filed a complaint of discrimination and harassment against him, saying that the book suggestions made them feel “unsafe."

Well, the whole point of Eurabia is awakening to the fact that we are unsafe, but I don’t think that qualifies as “sexual” harassment.

Keep in mind, these recommendations, four of many, many more from other faculty [including ‘works’ by Jimmah, Schriver, and the like], were for a ‘read and discuss’ freshman class.
...

Upon further investigation, it seems that Kupelain’s book is the source of their discomfiture.

random quotes from the email squabble:

From Scott Savage, librarian:
“...if we are decided that we want to engage our students in the kind of exchange of ideas on which the “secular” university is founded, then let’s choose something that confrints the accepted wisdom of [this University]!  Like students and young profs did in the 60’s, man!"

ok—so Scott’s a goober.  He still has a point.

one ‘response’:

"First, I am unable to explain why anyone other than a dogmatic elitist who was not only threatened by, but actually hated difference would recommend any book [like The Marketing of Evil] ...In short, I am shocked that a “librarian,” even someone purporting to be one, would actually recommend a book that preaches and argues against the reasons to engage with otherness.

...So I am not shocked, only deeply saddened—and THREATENED—that such mindless folks are [on campus]...  You have made me fearful and uneasy being a gay man on this campus.  I am in fact, notifying [the University] that I no longer feel safe doing my job.  I am being harassed.”
[from the irony-impaired JF Buckley]

No, JF—you are being an ass, and demonstrating your abject, pants-wetting terror at ‘engaging with otherness.’

Now we know why I’m recommending that college be used only as trade school.  The days of a ‘Liberal Arts / Classic’ education are long over.

It’s old so it must be from Ace
