The FIRST ‘Mater! [a Cherokee Purple]

My nasturtiums went wild this year [as it’s one of the coolest Summers I’ve yet experienced ‘round these parts. *cough*]

Here’s the first squish!  I let it go a little longer and, with its two brothers, sliced it, olive oiled it, added salt, pepper, basil and a touch of onion powder and whomped it on the grill while the tri-tip was resting.  Oh.  So.  Goooood.

These are the weirdest little fruits.  [for those not acquainted] these completely hollow lantern-like things grow from the flowers [like tomato flowers but prettier] and the green fruit grows to fill ‘em.  When the skin busts, it’s ripe.  Tastes like a mater/melon and adds quite a lot to fresh salsa [pico de gallo or chicken pecker Learned that from Sven, yanno...]

Just add tiny chopped maters of all colors, vidalia onions, a teeensy bit of celantro lime juice, a tad of lemon juice and salt.
Use “Taste of Lime” Tostitos.
