Katrina Myths -- the unraveling

let’s start a collection!

image

This is Aaron Broussard, President of Jefferson Parish, who tearfully related this story about his Emergency Manager’s elderly mother stuck in a nursing home.
[I dunno who that is behind his left shoulder—ghost of a conscience, maybe?]

Meet the Press - 9/4/2K5: ‘Are you coming, son? Is somebody coming?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, Mama, somebody’s coming to get you. Somebody’s coming to get you on Tuesday. Somebody’s coming to get you on Wednesday. Somebody’s coming to get you on Thursday. Somebody’s coming to get you on Friday.’ And she drowned Friday night. She drowned Friday night."

Wuzzadem has tracked down that Broussard’s statement was complete bullshit of questionable veracity.

For reference purposes, a start on a Katrina Timeline:
[more to come after chores]
Saturday 8/27—Katerina = Cat 3: Nagin declares state of emergency, urges residents in low-lying areas to evacuate.
Sunday 8/28—Katerina = Cat 5. 10 AM Nagin orders mandatory evacuation for New Orleans, but 10 shelters also are set up, including at the Superdome.  Some, not all, of the NORTA [city busses] were used to transport people to the Superdome.
Monday 8/29—6 AM Katerina = Cat 4 makes landfall.  17th Street Canal levee breaks
Tuesday 8/30USS Bataan begins SAR missions.  Second NO levee breaks flooding 80% of city
Wednesday 8/31—Katrina dissipates in Canada. Air Force One flyover of NO.
Thursday 9/1—National Guard brings 475 busses and supply trucks to Superdome.

More timelines here and here and here.
