It's Raining Weird
be careful out there
Ricky Green wandered into this town some months ago, a stranger just a bit stranger than most.
He had shed his middle-class respectability—a job as a graphic artist in the ‘burbs—strapped a guitar over his shoulder and landed on what he told people was “a spiritual journey.”Bolinas seemed like a good fit.
...The 33-year-old, prone to age of Aquarius-speak about the moon and the stars, already looked sort of like a local.
...
Six young people, including two juveniles, are said to have attacked and stabbed Green with a viciousness that is forcing Bolinas to search its soul for meaning.
It will find neither.
[Green was airlifted to trauma unit 50 miles away, in ICU for a week, released after two weeks]
[Green] is known as a friendly, if eccentric, street person and roaming musician. Tall and meticulously dressed in hats and bandannas, Green was often seen playing guitar, practicing martial arts in the street with a fake sword of staff, or emphatically offering his opinions on various political or spiritual matters.
..."He definitely was a free spirit. ... He would dress almost like an African prince."
Lamont Elkins Jr., was arrested yesterday afternoon at 49 Buckelew Street in Marin City. [read: da ghetto] ...Elkins, 19, of San Rafael, was charged last February with attempted second degree robbery; attempted grand theft from a person; battery; resisting arrest; and exhibiting a deadly weapon, a rock…
[In March] Elkins was charged with vandalizing a 2004 Honda Civic, causing $400 in damage… he spit in the car owner’s hat and on the car itself before kicking the car. ...
Thoren Manetta, 21, ...of San Rafael, ...February he was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol; reckless driving; and hit and run resulting in injury ...
Ryan Lorne, 23, of Bolinas, was charged last October with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a suspended license… in May of this year he was again charged with driving with a suspended license.
Stefan Do, 16, ...charged as an adult ...no prior record as an adult…
[Tyrone Brendal, 17, who is being charged as an adult, was arraigned Wednesday on counts of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. Authorities say he pummeled Green with a skateboard during the attack.]
...Suraya Jaimee Khalil, 21 [female][of Bolinas]
Just for reference, Marin City/San Rafael are about an hour away from Bolinas via windy, narrow country roads.
"I know a lot of people in this community,” [Derek James, a bartender at Smiley’s saloon] said, “are not really happy to see [Green] back.” ...
Bolinas wears its xenophobia proudly. For decades, a group known as the Bolinas Border Patrol has torn down all signs pointing the way to the enclave from Highway 1.
Someone staying in a car near the beach on the night of the attack told the Point Reyes Light that a group of 15 to 30 people flocked from outside Smiley’s Saloon toward the beach moments after deputies finished their evening rounds. Some were driving new, expensive-looking pickup trucks, the person said.
That last is fairly typical of the Marxist classism that is just part of the wallpaper in Moron County—one of the wealthiest counties in America. [Think Nouveau Martha’s Vineyard with some enclaves of 4th generation dairy farmers and others of used hippy-dippys. Sean Penn and Michael Savage live there.]
Marin has always been close-knit and small-town-ish. It was the playground of the San Francisco middle class crowd in the ‘30s and ‘40s with summer and week-end party homes dotted about the mostly agricultural landscape. Really beautiful countryside.

After the “Summer of Loooooove” went sour, [in about August] lots of sour hippies moved up there “to get away from the scene.”
Over the years the ‘burbs grew, those who could afford to get out of The City moved in, lots of hippies got rich, lots of dairys went under the plow for housing. Marin City, formerly housing for the Sausalito shipyards, turned into Da Projects while Marin County became known for peacock feathers and white wine/swapping parties, designer hippy-chic, peace ‘n’ justice rallies, orgaaaanic markets and boutique living. Political enclaves developed and everyone looked down on everyone who didn’t share their particular, narrowly-defined lifestyyyyle choices.
It seems now Marin is at the forefront of another Movement.
“...boredom young people face in the summer, drugs [and] alcohol ...”
That says most of it.
That and the lovely notion that if parents try to discipline their kids, they’ll most likely be visited by the Youth Commissar (formerly known as Social Worker) and be read the riot act. While their kids stand by and yell “nyahh nyahh nyahh can’t touch meeee”.
A little digging for clues in the Pt Reyes paper shows:
“Manetta’s mother did not return a phone call seeking comment.” Notice something missing there?
There’s a very fine line between civilization and barbarism. The Left seems to be trying to make it even finer.
