It's Not Going Away

doin’ my bit

The nooz cycle is an odd thing.  Things that happen on a Friday afternoon are likely to be long forgotten come Monday morning.  I sincerely hope that this Who is Obama Really story is not among the casualties.

I am truly getting sick of it—and I know many of you already grasped who Bn/mO Really Is as well—but I’m doing my small part in keeping the story alive.

We may be dealing with Hillary in the general election because of this [not to slight her own political and legal machinations] and we’ll just hafta slay that Beast in its own time.  This Beast needs slaying, here and now.  What is interesting is how this kerfluffle setting a stark contrast between those who say, “What?  But he seemed like such a nice, articulate clean young man!” and those who like Bn/mO all the better for having learned this about him.

Gonna be a long summer . . .

[NYT 4.30.07] It is difficult to tell whether Mr. Obama’s religious and political beliefs are fused or simply run parallel. *

...Like conservative Christians, he speaks of AIDS as a moral crisis. [well, that takes on new meaning if one believes the USofKKK A started AIDS...]

...longtime friend of Mr. Obama. “His faith is really a personal and an adult choice. His is a conversion story.”

...Mr. Wright preached black liberation theology, which interprets the Bible as the story of the struggles of black people, who by virtue of their oppression are better able to understand Scripture than those who have suffered less.

...In “Dreams From My Father,” Mr. Obama described his teary-eyed reaction to the minister’s words. “Inside the thousands of churches across the city, I imagined the stories of ordinary black people merging with the stories of David and Goliath, Moses and Pharaoh, the Christians in the lion’s den, Ezekiel’s field of dry bones,” Mr. Obama wrote. “Those stories — of survival, and freedom, and hope — became our story, my story.”

...Mr. Obama arrived at Harvard Law School later that year, where he fortified himself with recordings of Mr. Wright’s sermons,... Mr. Wright has presided over his wedding ceremony, baptized his two daughters and dedicated his house,...

...the church warns against “middleclassness,” its term for selfish individualism, and urges them to channel their gains back into the community.

..."The problems of poverty and racism, the uninsured and the unemployed, are not simply technical problems in search of the perfect 10 point plan,” Mr. Obama says in one of his standard campaign lines. “They are rooted in both societal indifference and individual callousness — in the imperfections of man.”...

...Mr. Obama said. “[Wright] analyzes public events in the context of race. I tend to look at them through the context of social justice and inequality.”

...The church’s Afrocentric focus makes Mr. Obama a figure of particular authenticity there, because he has the African connections so many members have searched for....

[emph mine—e-C]

So what I read from all of that [and there’s much more in the article] is that an youth from a diveeerse background, feeling unattached and with no place to call his own, found a place where all of his insecurities and wounds resonated.  He leans [outwardly] more toward the socialist interpretation of the issues than the racist, and the fascist idea that The State ought to come in and, with the “public will,” fix the imperfections of Man.

"If Barack gets past the primary, he might have to publicly distance himself from me,” Mr. Wright said with a shrug. “I said it to Barack personally, and he said yeah, that might have to happen."
