a member of a large group of firefighters from Valparaiso, Indiana who answered the cry for help by packing up boats, medical supplies, and provisions and driving hundreds of miles to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. When they arrived, it took hours to locate an authority. Finally, they linked up with a FEMA official, who made them sit through a daylong racial sensitivity training before they would be permitted into the community.

The next day, the firefighters rose early, anxious to get out into the community and begin rescuing victims. The FEMA official arrived and mapped out their mission. The firefighters were to go door to door distributing leaflets to any Katrina victims they could find. The leaflets instructed residents to call FEMA and the Red Cross if they needed supplies and informed them where they could find a Red Cross supply distribution point.

In the event of an emergency, your FEMA flyer can be folded until it’s all corners and used as a floatation device.

On Monday, some firefighters stuck in the staging area at the Sheraton peeled off their FEMA-issued shirts and stuffed them in backpacks, saying they refuse to represent the federal agency.
    Federal officials are unapologetic.
“I would go back and ask the firefighter to revisit his commitment to FEMA, to firefighting and to the citizens of this country,” said FEMA spokeswoman Mary Hudak.

  1. That is the same crap FEMA did with EPA personal in Florida last year. There is way too much management structure and personal career concerns in the way of the mission of FEMA. They need a good house cleaning.

  2. Mary Hudak is a typical career government weinie.  Having said that, few agencies mandate these requirements on their own. The requirements for this kind of craziness usually originates with Congressional mandates or “suggestions”.

I’m not excusing this kind of thing, just letting you know what my experience has been.

  3. I don’t even get what they’d “teach” these guys!?!

When dragging someone out of raging flood waters, don’t use the ‘N-word’." ?!?!?!?

Though, now you mention it, “Don’t refuse to rescue someone unless she flashes her boobies” might have been useful....  But apparetnly not needed by this group.

  4. Why is there mandatory harassment training before saving lives?  Ask the liberals and feminists.  Ask the Democrats.  Don’t blame FEMA or the Feds.  Blame NOW and Clinton.
