Is this a really good idea?
...gubbment… here to help...
WASHINGTON - Airline passengers will get doubled payments for being involuntarily bumped from flights and carriers would be forced to buy some landing rights at New York’s LaGuardia Airport, under US rules announced yesterday. ...
The penalties for airlines’ shuffling of travelers will rise to $400 if fliers arrive within two hours of their original schedule, and $800 if they don’t.
Apparently this doesn’t happen, now. My pal, J, had a flight cancelled—at 11pm one Sunday night at LAX] and was offered a flight the next day to go an extra 4 hours away to get dropped at her airport of origin “on the way back.” She finally got dropped at another airport and had to take a bus 2 hours back to her airport of origin. They offered her nuttin. Not even a nice attitude.
And when she finally got off the plane, her nightie was hanging out of her checked suitcase. Ripped.
Good thing I like to drive. I’ll likely get there sooner, cheaper and in a better frame of mind.
What with 68,000 annual bumpings X $800 payment + increasing fuel costs, it’s more than likely, even if ya do manage get to your destination, your airline won’t be in business once you’re ready to use that return ticket anyway.
*sigh* I usta looove to fly…
