I know, I know I know...

no telethons for adults

Where is Herrraldo?  Why isn’t he sobbing on the TeeVee for those flooded out all over the midwest?  And Shemp?  Where’s he?  No righteous anger at FEMA, the National Guard and the POTUS all not showing up on time?  I don’t think I’ve seen that Penn ‘tard rowing around in the Might Mississip either.

Cheney and his buds sure have been busy blowin’ up those levees tho.  Dayum. Lots more work than N.O.

And shouldn’t alla those Menonites and Amish and Baptist and Methodist farmers and townsfolk be sidling up to the Palmer House in Chicago and bellying up to the buffet for some of those famous yummy rolls—with their gubbment Debit Cards, nach?  Or will they be relocated to Cahleefohrneeiah in hopes they bring some rain with ‘em to put out our flagrante state?

Yanno, Penn lives about a hundred miles [or less, depending] from some of the worst fires.  Why isn’t he heeeelping his fellow Cahleefohrneeians by beating his head against a burning tree or something?  Hollywood is only a short Gulfstream 5 flight away—c’mon fulks!  What about a telethon or, hey, a whiney song or something?

I got a question a real one, this time:  what happens to all of those sand bags after the waters recede?  Are they just too icky to use again?  Or are they stored?  Cuz it seems to me I always see folks filling up new ones every time the waters commence to rising…

And isn’t there a machine to fill those damthings?  If there’s a machine that can bail hay, surely there’s a way to machine-fill sand bags, no?

  1. I don’t suppose the noticeable lack of wailing liberals about the midWest floods has anything to do with the fact that they’re all “whiteys” who stood up, got to work, and helped themselves and their neighbors out.

Mark Twain knoew a little bit about the River.  One quote:

The Mississippi River will always have its own way; no engineering skill can persuade it to do otherwise..

Here’s the one I was looking for:

    Twain on the River

“One who knows the Mississippi will promptly aver—not aloud, but to himself—that ten thousand River Commissions, with the mines of the world at their back, cannot tame that lawless stream, cannot curb it or confine it, cannot say to it, Go here, or Go there, and make it obey; cannot save a shore which it has sentenced; cannot bar its path with an obstruction which it will not tear down, dance over, and laugh at.”

About those sandbags - where did they come from?

Sometimes I think that building levees and piling sandbags against the river is like bringing a toothpick to a gunfight.
