Happy White Band Day
If only we’d known it was so easy...

Promoters are today promoting the notion that demonstrations and the dressing of buildings and people in white bands will end world poverty. Though, I don’t think it’s because the world’s poorest people got the concession on the white-band sales. Pity, that.

And so the notion travels the world that it’s *someone else’s* job to hand out wealth with nary a question as to where they got it from. The idea that one ‘makes money’ ie creates wealth rather than earning it from someone else is distinctly American. Our whole history has been a celebration of the idea that, instead of fighting over who gets a bigger slice of the pie, it is better to simply make more pies.
So to our brethren in the poverty stricken areas of the world: take a look around the world and see where the wealth is and ask how did they make that happen?
We in America are willing to support you in your efforts—we love new trading partners—but you’ve got a little homework to do. First you’re going to have to dump your despots, fillet your fascists and scrap your socialists. That step alone will likely triple your national per capita income.

Let’s make tomorrow “Average White Band” day—break out those record players, kids!
