Hangin' Around -- Doin' the SplodyDope Dance
It’s asymmetric warfare—nuttin’ more; nuttin’ less
Those ‘suicides’ at Gitmo were not the acts of ‘troubled’ or ‘despondent’ men ‘held without charges.’ They were the acts of dedicated jihadists working to free their ‘brothers’ to return to the battlefront; perhaps one of whom aspires to be a replacement for the Doornail Zarqawi.
On the raadio I heard a disturbing bit of info. Rusty Humphries [host with the most catching theme song e.v.e.r.] has long been investigating Gitmo. He did several broadcasts from the site featuring conversations with the Warden [wrong term, I know] exposing the BS promulgated by the Loons Among US.
Tonight, he reported something that had not been included in the other reports I’d heard: One of the Imams there had a dream of prophesy which indicated if three ‘brothers’ [inmates] died the world would cry and they would all be released. Good enough reason for someone predisposed to splodydopehood to start cutting up sheets, no?
Then I happen across this—on CommieNN, no less:
“This was clearly a planned event, not a spontaneous event,” said Rear Adm. Harry Harris, commander of Joint Task Force-Guantanamo.
He added that there is a “mythical belief” that the Guantanamo detention center would be shut down if three detainees die. ...There have been 41 suicide attempts—many by the same detainee—since the facility opened
uh huh…
"The suicides should surprise no one because the detainees believe they will be held indefinitely with no chance for justice,” said Josh Colangelo-Bryan with the Center for Constitutional Rights, which represents about 200 of the detainees.
“They’ve been told that while at Guantanamo they have no rights as human beings,” he told reporters during a conference call Saturday.
Colangelo-Bryan said one of his clients told him during a visit to the facility in October 2005 that he “would simply rather die than live here with no rights."
Ok—that sounds more like ol’ CommieNN… Like these cut-throats ever lived anywhere in any culture with even the smallest inkling of a semblance of a concept of ‘rights.’ ‘Rights’ is a post-enlightenment concept, Josh, m’boy. These fellas come from where dey ain’t had one. [see also Magna Carta]
Has anyone else noticed that Rove seems to have taken a matching pair of something with him when he left?
WASHINGTON - President Bush expressed “serious concern” Saturday over the suicides at the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay and directed an aggressive effort by his administration to reach out diplomatically while it investigates.
So I guess that means we won’t be wrappin’ ‘em in bacon and shipping ‘em home on a slow cargo boat?
..."no rights as human beings...”
I have never been able to fathom why the distinction between civil and human rights is so difficult for people. The HUMAN rights of prisoners in US jails or detention centers or whatevers go FAR beyond what most of the detainees could provide for themselves. Human rights include such fundamentals as food, shelter, warmth, hygiene, and such. CIVIL rights include such niceties as fones, TV, mail, visits, religious materials, attorneys, and so on.
The violations of the CIVIL rights of law-abiding citizens are automatically suspended or sacrificed by criminals who rape, murder, terrorize, extort, kidnap, or generally act in ways which violate the rules the society has established and ratified.
HUMAN rights are suspended or terminated when the wrongdoer either is placed in stasis for the good of the many or is caused permanently to cease contaminating everybody else’s breathing air.
Prisoners in most US jails and penitentiaries have more and better rights afforded them than the homeless in the US. Most of the detainees in Gitmo eat better, are cleaner, and get better treatment overall than they did while they were running around being nuisances to much larger groups of people. I, for one, admire and salute the military guards for their patience and restraint.
Apparently the definition of those two terms is never discussed in journalism school......ANYwhere.
