On Tuesday [7/12/05], former Mexican Foreign Minister Jorge Castaneda told a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing: “No border security is possible without Mexican cooperation” and “there can be no cooperation [from the Mexican government] without some sort of immigration reform package.”

...Castaneda, now a professor at New York University, went on to describe immigration reform as amnesty for all Mexicans living illegally in the U.S., the admission of some 5 million additional Mexican citizens to the U.S. over the next 10 years, and massive increases in U.S. aid ...

Uh huh… And what are y’all ustedes willing to put on the table in return for popu-dumping on the US?

... if such reform is enacted, Mexico would offer “tough” but “non-coercive” assistance in the effort to prevent terrorists from entering the U.S. via Mexico.

“Non-coercive.” If an authority is non-coercive, is it directional?  So what they’re offering is scoldings?  Tickets written in purple pen?!?  Wayside self-esteem seminars?!?!?  In other words, what they’re doing now—

Dan Stein, president of FAIR made some dead-on comments:

"Jorge Castaneda is not some obscure voice from Mexico’s distant political past. He served as foreign minister in the current Mexican administration. It is imperative that the Fox government issue a formal repudiation of Castaneda’s remarks and assure the American public that their cooperation in the war against terrorism will not come at the price of extortion."

*crickets*

"When anyone, much less a former foreign minister of a supposedly friendly nation, comes before a committee of the United States Senate and issues ultimatums and thinly veiled threats against the United States, one would expect outrage and condemnation from members of Congress. Instead, we got meek acquiescence or deafening silence from the members who were present,” said Stein. “If the government of Mexico is not prepared to join us in this struggle, without conditions, then they cannot claim to be an ally and our government must view them as such. Allies do not engage in extortion."

Senior Schlong Rodge says it better, even, than I.  Which is why I sole the photo from him, too.  *clicky*clicky*

Here’s an idea:  Let’s erase the US/Mexico border, send in Corporate Shock and Awe to grab their resources and create an actual economy, put their population to work and toss their government one continent further south—everyone from El Zorro Fox to the local postmasters.  Call it: Operation Bitch-Slap

  1. I so love that idea… After all, aren’t they trying to invade our country, steal our resources, grab back Mexifornia, Texifornia, etc...??  That’s war!

So, yeah.  There could be total amnesty for the millions of Mexican illegals living here… just put the e-Claire plan to work and they’d become instant citizens… smile

  2. And the new citizens have to learn English as a first language too.

  3. Please!  I would like to see that here in South Florida… There are places down in Dade county -and I’m not talking about little Havana- where nobody speaks English and sees no reason to learn .

If I moved to a non-English speaking country my first priority would be to learn their language. Not simply to understand and be understood, but because it’s a mark of respect.  Why else would I want to be there unless it’s to embrace my new country?

  4. Now, I could get behind that plan.  Mexico has been an embarrassment to all civilized people for 180+ years (and the only reason it hasn’t been an embarrassment longer than that is, it was a department of Spain before 1822).  And back then, Spain was an embarrassment . . .
