Cornfuzzed by the MSM

it’s a shock, I know

Been watching too much tv today—cooking is my only excuse.  And I hear one report [on the raadio] that President Bush talked with the PM of Lebanon, alWhasssisiname, wherein he said two things:  a] promised to urge Israel to have ‘restraint’ in killing civilians and b] declined to urge Israel to cease fire.

Then I hear on the tee’n’vee that President Bush did urge Israel to a cease fire.  So, bein’ me, I proceed to get hoppin’ mad, scare the kidz ‘n’ dogs until I look it up and find no mention of this shift *anywhere* *else*.

[btw, this wasn’t alCNN:  it was alFOX.]

But, moving past the inane, irrelevant and outright creepy, the real question remains:  restraint?!?!?!? Are ya out of yer freakin’ mind ?!?!?!

Feelings aside, where do we draw our line

I think if we get to a place where we do not place a much higher value on the life of an American or ally than we do on the life of an enemy or a supporter of our enemy, we’re toast.

As to the value placed on the life of an American soldier vs that of a foreign civilian, we must place more value on the American soldier lest we trade places with that foreign civilian.

It is important to distinguish among friends, The Enemy and the innocent/uninvolved.  [that third category is limited to children under 13, IMO] There are times when our friends are responsible for distinguishing **themselves** from our enemies.

‘Rules of Combat’—personal [Marquis of Queensbury] or national [Geneva Conventions]—is an artifact of Civilization.  We currently face uncivilized Primitives who wouldn’t recognize a Moral High Ground if there were a falafel stand on it.  To the extent that we hold to our own civilized values sufficiently to keep our own respect, we must use all that is available to us to achieve victory so that we may actually be around to continue this debate 50 years hence.

‘Innocent bystanders’?  I’m not sure there is such a thing.  If one sees evil creeping in in his own backyard and does nothing?  Perhaps if one is too damaged or ignorant to discern evil?

So, bombing the hell out of a village that supports The Enemy: yes.  Going in and desecrating bodies afterward: no.

...though I am a little wobbly on the bacon question.

[see what I mean?  jumbled.  all assistance is sought and welcomed]
