Instruction in social sciences shall include the early history of California andaan age-appropriate study of the role and contributions of both men and women, Black Americans, American Indians, Mexicans, Asians, PacificIsland peopleIslanders, and other ethnic groups, and people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender, to the economic, political, and social development of California and the United States of America, with particular emphasis on portraying the role of these groups in contemporary society.
Whatdahell is “an age appropriate” discussion of “people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender” for a first grader?
Not to mention, I thought the whole freakin’ idea was that it doesn’t matter that someone is male/fema/e/black ... transgender? What folks do is what matters—riiiiight? But, hell—whaddo *I* know—I guess I’m just one of dem dam dumb bigoted rednecks who’s more interested in a man’s actions and character than in his bed-partner.
When adopting instructional materials for use in the schools, governing boards shall include only instructional materials which, in their determination, accurately portray in an age-appropriate manner the cultural, racial , gender, and sexual orientation diversity of our society, including:

(c) The contributions of people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender to the total development of California and the United States.
So, whaaaa? yer tellin’ me Fr. Junipero Serra was transgendered?!?!?
No instructional materials shall be adopted by any governing board for use in the schools that, in its determination, contains:

(b) Any sectarian or denominational doctrine or propaganda contrary to law.
Ok—this part might be useful in outlawing the 2 week unit wherein 7th graders are instructed in how to be Islamic and taught to repeat that ‘Allah is the one true god.’
