"Timing matters"
The head of the Armenian church in Turkey said he opposed the passing of a resolution by the US House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs acknowledging claims the Ottoman Empire committed an act of genocide against its Armenian citizens in World War One.
By Jane Harman ... I sent a letter to Rep. Tom Lantos, the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, urging him to withdrawHR 106, which I had co-sponsored earlier in the year. ...Similar resolutions have passed the House twice—in 1975 and 1984
...after a visit in February to Turkey, where I met with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Armenian Orthodox patriarch and colleagues of murdered Turkish Armenian journalist Hrant Dink, I became convinced that passing this resolution again at this time would isolate and embarrass a courageous and moderate Islamic government in perhaps the most volatile region in the world.
...Timing matters. I asked a leader in California’s Armenian American community just days ago why the resolution was being pushed now. “They didn’t ask me,” he said. It wasn’t his call, and he probably would not have pushed it.
According to Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Incirlik Air Base near Adana, Turkey is the transshipment point for about 70% of all air cargo (including 33% of the fuel) going to supply US forces in Iraq. Included are about 95% of the new “MRAP”—mine-resistant, ambush-protected—vehicles designed to save the lives of American troops.
This First Female Speaker* oughta be hit with an iron.
*giving women everywhere a bad name. Her “career” hits exactly each and every point that men made against giving us galz the vote.
Wasn’t Jane Harmon replaced by the Democrat Leadership because she had a brain?
If that was the case, why would the Democrat Leadership listen to her now?
Democrats, proving again that Consistency is a feature, not a hobgoblin.
