ALBANY, N.Y. The two Albany mosque leaders caught up in an F-B-I sting last year now face new charges of conspiring to support a terrorist group.
...The superseding indictment charges [Yassin Aref and Mohammed Hossain] with attempting to provide support to an Islamic extremist organization based in Pakistan. That group is on the State Department’s list of designated foreign terrorist organizations.
The 35-year-old Aref is the imam of the Albany mosque founded by the 50-year-old Hossain, who owns a pizzeria.
Both have been free on 250-thousand-dollar bond since shortly after their arrest in August 2004. Each originally was charged with money laundering and supporting terrorism.
