Blog Whoring
With bloggers, we get *different* cues than we would get from people met on the street. Just as valid, and just as partial to the whole. I think that the pieces of ourselves we share in this unique-in-the-history-of-the-world way are just as *real* as those we share in the relationships we have in person. Just different pieces. And the way in which it happens is so new that we, as a species, have only begun to think about it. That is one of the reasons I like the whole blogging thing. It is truly a *new* human activity. (Hell, even my spellchecker doesn't recognize the word, 'blog.' The centuries' old practice of writing letters is somewhat similar to the concept of blogging. The crucial differences are time and exposure. Words have never sped so widely, so rapidly before. That immediacy is what seems to give a greater sense of intimacy. So, what is in some places deplored as 'salesmanship' seems to me to be the simple desire of the voice to be heard. Without readers, blogging is akin to yelling down a well. And that would be - well, boring. So come on in and see my new blogspace. There will be changes happenin' and stuff to look at. Comment on what you see and maybe we can start some neurons a'dancin'!
