Paul Hellyer, Canadian Minister of Defense [1963-7] and Deputy Prime Minister under Clueseau Trudeau is again protecting Canada from eeeevil outside influences. You may remember Hellyer from these statements:
Paul Hellyer, Canadian DM “Canada’s decision in principle to support the U.S. missile defense system is morally wrong,” said Paul Hellyer, former minister of Defence and Leader of the Canadian Action Party. “It will be seen as affirmation of the Pentagon’s plan to impose U.S. ‘values and interests’ (the interests of the U.S. industrial-military complex) on a global basis.” [hmmm, yes—the Value of not being forced to wear a beard ‘n’ burka, for one… e-C]
“The U.S. plan for unilateral world dominance is totally contrary to Canadian multilateralism and we should not be part of it,” Hellyer added, ..."Canada should build up its own armed forces to be used for constructive purposes, rather than acting as a stamp of approval for unilateral U.S. militarism,”...

Well, Hellyer is now shooting for the ultimate in MultiCulti: requesting Canadian Parliament to hold hearings on policy for Exo-political relations with Bug-Eyed Monsters [BEM] and Little Green Men [LGM].
On September 25, 2005, ... speech at the University of Toronto ... [Hellyer] stated: “UFOs, are as real as the airplanes that fly over your head.”
Mr. Hellyer went on to say, “I’m so concerned about what the consequences might be of starting an intergalactic war, that I just think I had to say something.”
...Hellyer warned, “The United States military are preparing weapons which could be used against the aliens, and they could get us into an intergalactic war without us ever having any warning. He stated, “The Bush administration has finally agreed to let the military build a forward base on the moon, which will put them in a better position to keep track of the goings and comings of the visitors from space, and to shoot at them, if they so decide."
Indeed. [what is the ET equivalent of a burka, anyway? A1 Sauce?]
Not really as broadminded as he seems, Mr. Hellyer would restrict his Exo-politics to “ethical, advanced extraterrestrial civilizations that may now be visiting Earth.” Which I take to mean that he will have no truck with those Philistine LGMs or Barbarian BEMs, or, presumable, the Klingons.
One of the NGOs supporting Mr. Hellyer is “Institute for Cooperation in Space (ICIS), whose International Director headed a proposed 1977 Extraterrestrial Communication Study for the White House of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, who himself has publicly reported a 1969 Close Encounter of the First Kind with a UFO;” a bit ‘o history I somehow missed, but which could explain a lot. A whole lot. [unless he’s referring to that Killer Rabbit...]
The Canadian Exopolitics Initiative… proposes that the Government of Canada undertake a Decade of Contact… [defined as] “a 10-year process of formal, funded public education, scientific research, educational curricula development and implementation, strategic planning, community activity, and public outreach concerning our terrestrial society’s full cultural, political, social, legal, and governmental communication and public interest diplomacy with advanced, ethical Off-Planet cultures now visiting Earth.”
Sounds like a grant proposal extraordinaire. And there they go again with that narrow and condescending “ethical” requirement, again.
“Canada should accept the long-standing invitation of U.S. Congressman Dennis Kucinich of Ohio to launch a conference to seek approval of an international treaty to ban weapons in space. That would be a positive Canadian contribution toward a more peaceful world.”
Because we all know that UN hearings and perhaps [oh No!] sanctions would prevent, say… Iran or China [thankyouBillary] from building weapons in space to toss down on our unsuspecting but oh-so-willing-to-negotiate heads, eh, Paul?
“Our Canadian government needs to openly address these important issues of the possible deployment of weapons in outer war plans against ethical ET societies.”
