Another Silly F*** 911 Gesture
what is it about this movie that seems to melt brains?!?The Grand Lake Theater in Oakland is rerating "
FahrenheitFat-n-hate 9/11'' PG-13, so that Global Exchange and 10 other organizations can sponsor a showing of the movie to teenagers. The screening is at 11:45 a.m. July 21, and tickets will be sold two for the price of one. Theater owner Allen Michaan says there's no law about the Motion Picture Association of America's rating system, which he deems voluntary and which gave the picture a "politically motivated'' R. "To my mind, this R doesn't stand for 'restricted,' it stands for 'repressed.' '' In Canada, the movie's rating requires only that children younger than 14 be accompanied by adults, Michaan said, and he thinks the movie is especially important for young people "who are being asked to fight and die.'' [links, emph. and snark mine -C]
In other words: "I don't haaave to and you can't maaake me. 'Sides all the other kids Canada is doing it. And somebody's trying to keep me from doing it so I haaaaafta!"
Look, moron Moonbat Michaan. When one is participating in a civilized society, and expecting to receive the benefits therefrom, one makes and keeps certain agreements. Voluntary agreements, like the movie code.
Your "protest" re-rating is pointless since, as it stands, any kid is able to see the movie with their parent. Or are you afraid of what the parents might say to balance the propaganda? It's not so easy to put one over on an adult as it is on an inexperienced kid, is it? If you think it's so important for kids to see this movie why not offer a two-for-one deal for parent and child?
As to this "movie [being] especially important for young people 'who are being asked to fight and die.'", I don't know if you noticed but the draft was over some time in the '70s. [a quarter of a century ago] The USA has an all volunteer Armed Forces, now. No one is asking these kids to do anything -- armed service is simply one of the choices available to kids. And were any of these kids to choose to join the Armed Forces, what they would be fighting and possibly dying for is your right to change the movie rating on a whim and make silly "repression" statements without fear of governmental censor. Or getting stoned in the street.
Though I do b'lieve that you are still open to the effects of the free market and some people who don't care for your silly statements choosing to see movies elsewhere.
