And the malady lingers on

Cucarachas anyone?

There is a certain ...form of argument wherein the arguer plops out just any old thing that fits his preconceptions whether or not any rational being—human or other—would even recognize the route from the evidence to his conclusion.

The tune goes something like this:  “Because I ran up to him and I was screaming invectives and uncomplimentary speculations as to his heritage, parentage, and simultaneous filial and romantic relationship to barnyard animals, and I stabbed him in the arm, the chest, and the hinder with a dull steak knife, and I poked him in the eye, and I spat on his new shoes: he seemed unconscionably honked off.  That B@$turd!”

Well, that is the sort of “logical argument” put forward by the Voz de Aztlan folk:

Because the billboards were entirely in Spanish and because they intermingled the city skylines of Los Angeles and Mexico City and because the billboards showed the state’s abbreviation “CA” crossed out and in it’s place the word “Mexico”, the area’s bigots and xenophobes blew their tops.

These logicians are predicting violence and human rights violations along the CA/Me-hee-ko border when the Minuteman Project organizes there.

The Minutemen just completed a month long operation among the lizards and cacti in the Arizona desert but this time they will be operating in a region inhabited by millions of Mexicans on both sides of the border. Thanks to the deterrence provided by a number of human rights monitoring groups, there were no serious human rights violations in Arizona, but their operations in Alta California could have entirely different results.

This time a much larger number of immigrant rights groups, including the Brown Berets de Aztlan, will be waiting for the Minutemen to arrive. The potential for violence is great along a California/Mexico border that is already a powder keg.

Hmm… I wonder if El Mago Grande will be encouraging the Brown Berets de Aztlan to wear their sábanas y capuchas puntiagudos?
