Getting Warmer

getting busted

I’m really glad we’ve got that plan for gates on the driveway…

...funded by the Government’s Carbon Emissions Reduction Target scheme...Town halls are photographing houses in the middle of the night to see whether they are wasting energy.

The thermal images, which show heat escaping though windows, doors and roofs, will be sent to homeowners to encourage them to insulate.

Tens of thousands of properties have been photographed over the past few months and there are plans to extend the scheme to every house in the country.

..."it’s about helping people..."

Relax.  It’s only GreatFormer Britain—but don’t tell Algore…

Great Decisions In HisStory

too hip to slip

∏eh ∅ne is keeping and using his BlackCrackberry.  Publicly.

What could possibly go wrong?

"This is the device that helps determine how he perceives the rest of the world."

So he gets all the communication he wants.  Wonder how long it’ll last for the rest of US?

President Obama warned Republicans on Capitol Hill today “You can’t just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done,"

I bet we hear this a lot in the hours that seem like days that seem like years to come:

"I won,” he said, according to aides who were briefed on the meeting. “I will trump you on that."

PrezBO's Package

gifts from ∏eh ∅ne you

I guess a [D] wetdream could be called some sort of “stimulus.” eww

House minority leader John Boehner distributed an email this week containing some details about the Democrat’s “stimulus” plan.

A Dozen Fun Facts About the House Democrats’ Massive Spending Bill

1. The House Democrats’ bill will cost each and every household $6,700 additional debt, paid for by our children and grandchildren.

2. The total cost of this one piece of legislation is almost as much as the annual discretionary budget for the entire federal government.

3. President-elect Obama has said that his proposed stimulus legislation will create or save three million jobs. This means that this legislation will spend about $275,000 per job. The average household income in the U.S. is $50,000 a year.
[you employers out there - how much does it cost to provide a private sector job?]

4. The House Democrats’ bill provides enough spending - $825 billion - to give every man, woman, and child in America $2,700.

5. $825 billion is enough to give every person living in poverty in the U.S. $22,000.

6. $825 billion is enough to give every person in Ohio $72,000.

7. Although the House Democrats’ proposal has been billed as a transportation and infrastructure investment package, in actuality only $30 billion of the bill - or three percent - is for road and highway spending. A recent study from the Congressional Budget Office said that only 25 percent of infrastructure dollars can be spent in the first year, making the one year total less than $7 billion for infrastructure.
[gotcher shovel-ready right here—and it’s rope-handled!]

8. Much of the funding within the House Democrats’ proposal will go to programs that already have large, unexpended balances. For example, the bill provides $1 billion for Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), which already have $16 billion on hand. And, this year, Congress has plans to rescind $9 billion in highway funding that the states have not yet used.

9. In 1993, the unemployment rate was virtually the same as the rate today (around seven percent). Yet, then-President Clinton’s proposed stimulus legislation ONLY contained $16 billion in spending.

10. Here are just a few of the programs and projects that have been included in the House Democrats’ proposal:

$650 million for digital TV coupons.
[at $40 apiece that’s *16,250,000* coupons?!?  More.  with 20 days to go.]

$6 billion for colleges/universities - many which have billion dollar endowments.

$166 billion in direct aid to states - many of which have failed to budget wisely.  [like CA]

$50 million in funding for the National Endowment of the Arts.  [weeeeee.  more pee-art]

$44 million for repairs to U.S. Department of Agriculture headquarters.

$200 million for the National Mall, including grass planting. [needed after the Oh-green inauguration]

$400 million for “National Treasures.”
[like. . . ]

11. Almost one-third of the so called tax relief in the House Democrats’ bill is spending in disguise, meaning that true tax relief makes up only 24 percent of the total package - not the 40 percent that President-elect Obama had requested.

12. $825 billion is just the beginning - many Capitol Hill Democrats want to spend even more taxpayer dollars on their “stimulus” plan.

Color me cynical, but I don’t feel so stimulated.  You?

Noting we didn't know...

but it’s well said

This will end in tears. The Obama hysteria is not merely embarrassing to witness, it is itself contributory to the scale of the disaster that is coming. What we are experiencing, in the deepening days of a global depression, is the desperate suspension of disbelief by people of intelligence - la trahison des clercs - in a pathetic effort to hypnotise themselves into the delusion that it will be all right on the night. It will not be all right.

...there is no excuse for anybody in Britain falling for Obama. Yet today, in this country, even some of those who remained sane during the emotional spasm of the Diana aberration are pumping the air for Princess Barack.

...the string of Christmas cracker mottoes booming through the public address system on Washington’s National Mall ...

...We should be long past applauding politicians of any hue: they got us into this mess. ...

ToDaZeD Headline Grabber

there.  fixed it.

Gavin Newsom Has Become A Joke To Democratic Insiders Democratic Insiders Catch Up With Reality

In spite of being straight, white, rich and male, he’s managed to make himself the center of San Franciscopolitics for the past five years. Not the sort of man you forget. But ask average Californians what they remember about Newsom at the moment, and they’re likely to offer six words: “whether you like it or not.”

...How did Newsom let this happen to himself?

*insert hand-wringing here*

Once viewed as a young man in a hurry, Newsom has become a joke to Democratic insiders, a man whose bright national future ended before it began.

*insert cheering here*

But Newsom hasn’t gotten any less ambitious. In the next six months, he is widely expected to announce a run for governor of California

*insert uproarious laughter here*

When it comes to reading the mood of the country, urban liberals have a far from perfect record.

ok - that was just gratuitous....

Uh Oh

honeymoon squabble?

So the whole point of the ceremony—getting the word out there that the president was in fact inaugurated—was undermined by the fact that now there’s no videotape to prove he was sworn in.

No CNN tape ya mean…

Not to mention that it may run counter to the main message the president was trying to deliver Wednesday with his executive order pushing for more openness in government.

uhmmm…

The Closer

House Republicans want to strike some compromises with the White House over the Democratic economic stimulus plan, after a new report showed the plan could take as long as 10 years to work its way into the economy.

..."When it comes to slow-moving government spending programs, it’s clear that it doesn’t create the jobs or preserve the jobs that need to happen,” House Republican Leader John Boehner said.

David Obey, D-Wis., rejected the budget office analysis.

“I happen to think that CBO’s estimate is off the wall but we’re trying to respond to it nonetheless,” he said.

He said Congress must quickly put aside deliberations and act on the program.

“We can debate the details of this until the cows come home, as they say in my district, but sooner or later we have to get about making decisions,” he said.

The dispute prompted Republican leaders to argue that lawmakers should just give taxpayers more money back.

“We see the choice between fast-acting tax relief and a Democrat plan outlined last week that involves slow and wasteful government spending,” Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind., said.

Doitnowdoitnowdoitnowwww!!!!

In fact, the CBO and several economists predict the recession will be over before two-thirds of the stimulus money even takes effect.

Whaaa?

Obama has agreed to meet with House Republicans about their stimulus ideas some time next week.

Wow... Embarrassing.

Legacy:  Flaming Dooshtool

Rick Davis, the campaign manager for McCain:
“...I mean, but you look at the leadership John McCain gave which is counter to the direction that the party was headed, when you have the Rush Limbaughs of the world who, you know, literally almost feed the nativist attitude toward immigration reform, what do you think the Hispanic voter, the Latino voter is gonna remember?  They’re gonna remember the attacks, not the efforts by people like John McCain to try and reform."

That’s lamer than any excuse JOhn KErry ever spewed.  That’s lamer than a 2 y.o. caught with a hand in the cookie jar.  That’s lamer than....  well, you get the idea.

And whatinhell does “literally almost” mean?

And whatinhell is “nativist” about a country wanting to have borders?  Canada has ‘em—they wouldn’t let in Bill Ayers.  Mexico has ‘em - they require a visa and deny the right of any non-citizen to own real property.  Freakin Afghanistan has borders.  Chad has borders.  Rwanda.  Egypt.

WTF is the matter with these footstools?!?

Hold on to your Hats, Bubbies

bumps dead ahead

As is appropriate, the whitehouse.gov [not “.com”, ferhevinsakes] is updated to reflect the chaaaanges of today; and what changes they are.

First ∏eh ∅ne quotes hizownself to bolster his points:

”...we can only compete if our government makes the investments that give us a fighting chance—and if we know our families have some net beneath which they cannot fall."
[i>emph. mine.  e~C]
...community organizer… bla bla bla ...poverty is difficult to escape… White House Office on Urban Policy… $$$ ... Thriving innovation clusters ... $$$$ ...

ahh - here ya go:

repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent.

Tiahrt Amendment.

Here’s your sooooother:

Sportsmen

President Obama did not grow up hunting and fishing, but he recognizes the great conservation legacy of America’s hunters and anglers and has great respect for the passion that hunters and anglers have for their sports. Were it not for America’s hunters and anglers, including the great icons like Theodore Roosevelt and Aldo Leopold, our nation would not have the tradition of sound game management, a system of ethical, science-based game laws and an extensive public lands estate on which to pursue the sport. The President and Vice President recognize that we must forge a broad coalition if we are to address the great conservation challenges we face. America’s hunters and anglers are a key constituency that must take an active role and have a powerful voice in this coalition.

Yeah.  Way to miss the point, Jugears.

Ed Driscoll

And a coupla gratuitous swipes just to keep the BDS alive, maa-aaan.

President Obama will keep the broken promises made by President Bush to rebuild New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. He and Vice President Biden will take steps to ensure that the federal government will never again allow such catastrophic failures in emergency planning and response to occur.

Like the part that was the responsibility of the state of LA?  Like the Chocolate City busses?  Like the $250,000 for every man/woman/child we’ve dumped into that sub-sea-level hole?

President Obama swiftly responded to Hurricane Katrina.

Ok - that has to be the dumbest line ever published at taxpayer expense.  ...

Smooth move, ∅ne.

For those wishing ∏eh ∅ne "well"

magnanimity, while generous, is not appropriate

We are in the midst of an ‘economic crisis,’ or so I am told day in and all day long.  A crisis bad enough, it is rumored, that Shifty Secy. Paulson threatened Congress members with Marshal Law if he did not get his bailout booty.

Now, as the first round of funds disappears without a ripple, the second is readied and the situation continues to worsen, so I am told, we have inaugurated a POTUS who deems it appropriate to dress his first lady in threads of gold, liken himself to another President whom he resembles not at all, and throw not one but ten balls in his own honor.

On this day he warns us that “Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some...” without even a break in cadence to acknowledge the irony.  On this day, while his citizens on his watch are laid off or fired, he allows to be spent $170 million on an orgy of pop-stars, train trips, food, decorations and such fantasy adulation as has never before been seen.

For those who are “willing to give him time” to “see how he does,” I offer this as example; his first decision.  It divulges as much information as one ought to need about the man’s priorities, judgement, consideration, empathy and Values.

Uh.... uh... ... ...

oh, that went well

Apparently the oath wasn’t on teleprompter…

[Guess it’s better’n Nixon’s path being littered with dead pigeons.]

“Oaf” of office?
Hey… was that raaacist?

HighLow lights of the Jon Favreau/David Axelrod/∏eh ∅ne dud:

My fellow citizens:

Not “Americans”?

...collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age

Like, saaay, Iraq?

Less measurable but no less profound is a sapping of confidence across our land — a nagging fear that America’s decline is inevitable, and that the next generation must lower its sights.

Which was pretty much your campaign in a nutshell and the ceaseless drumbeat of your sycophants the MSM, non?

On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics.

...which pretty much describes your campaign and the entire list of “accomplishments” of Congress, non?

to carry forward that precious gift, that noble idea, passed on from generation to generation: the God-given promise that all are equal, all are free and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness.

If ya can get out from under the taxes the regulations and the gubbmint interference…

We will restore science to its rightful place

WTH?!?

What the cynics fail to understand is that the ground has shifted beneath them — that the stale political arguments that have consumed us for so long no longer apply. The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works — whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified.

I guess asking howinhell that is the work of gubbmint is “stale” and “no longer applies?”

With old friends and former foes, we will work tirelessly to lessen the nuclear threat, and roll back the specter of a warming planet.

oy…

that the lines of tribe shall soon dissolve; that as the world grows smaller, our common humanity shall reveal itself;

Tell it to Osama.

To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history;

Iron?

This is the price and the promise of citizenship.

...not just a dash and a swim?

Ok—this is something I can agree with; though, perhaps, not in the way it was meant.

Let it be said by our children’s children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God’s grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations.

ToDaZeD Why I HOPE ∏eh ∅ne Fails

EPIC

”...It was these ideals that led us to declare independence, and craft our constitution, producing documents that were imperfect but had within them, like our nation itself, the capacity to be made more perfect.

We are here today not simply to pay tribute to our first patriots but to take up the work that they began.

And yet while our problems may be new, what is required to overcome them is not. What is required is the same perseverance and idealism that our founders displayed. What is required is a new declaration of independence not just in our nation, but in our own lives...independence from ideology…"

Let’s look at that again…

ideology [n]

1. the body of doctrine, myth, belief, etc., that guides an individual, social movement, institution, class, or large group.

2. such a body of doctrine, myth, etc., with reference to some political and social plan, as that of fascism, along with the devices for putting it into operation.

Ignoring quietly the iron in #2, what is described as ideology is Values; the things at the very basis of the decision-making process.  How do ya know what choice to make?  What are your Values?

That is the major beef folks have with ∏eh ∅ne—his Values.  We disagree that gubbmint is Teh Answer to every question.  We disagree that the individual ought to be subservient to the gubbmint.  We disagree that the gubbmint has the vaguest clue how to run the economy [’xcept into the ground], our healthcare [’xcept by rationing care], or our personal lives [hands off my bacon, Jugears.]

We Value free speech, unconstrained by whatever political correctness is en vogue; we Value our right to defend ourselves, our families and our country; we Value equality for every man before the law, not some being more special; we Value Life, Liberty, Private Property, independence and our ability to make our own choices and support ourselves to the best of our ability.

∏eh ∅ne?  Not so much…

"…the American Revolution was and remains an ongoing struggle in the minds and hearts of the people…so starting now, let’s take up in our own lives, the work of perfecting our Union. Let’s build a government…let all of us do our part to rebuild this country , let’s make sure this election is not the end of what we do to change America, but just the beginning.”

What is that if not ideology, just a very different one than that Valued by the Founding Fathers—and me?

I say it is time to heed this call and to come together in the defense of those Values cherished by the Original Revolutionaries.  Fight against ignorance and closed-mindedness and group-think.  Fight against gubbmint intrusion and overreach into areas it was never designed to enter and at which it is designed to fail.  It is time, again to fight for our Independence; for our Freedom.
