H. R. 6615
Sponsor: Rep. Louis Gohmert [R-TX]
Status: Introduced

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

July 24, 2008

To provide for the transport of the enemy combatants detained in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to Washington, DC, where the United States Supreme Court will be able to more effectively micromanage the detainees by holding them on the Supreme Court grounds, and for other purposes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ‘Giving Inmate Terrorists More Opportunities (GITMO) Act of 2008’.

SEC. 2. FINDINGS.

Congress finds the following:

(1) The United States Supreme Court issued an opinion styled Boumediene v. Bush on June 12, 2008.

(2) Justice Anthony Kennedy, in the court’s majority opinion, held that foreign terrorism suspects held at the Guantanamo Bay naval base in Cuba have constitutional rights to challenge their detention in United States courts.

(3) This is an obvious effort on the part of the Supreme Court to micromanage the detainment and disposition of detainees in the War on Terror who are dedicated to destroying innocent people and the American way of life.

(4) The United States Supreme Court clearly needs increased opportunity to oversee the handling of the enemy combatants, as it has seen fit to take a greater role in managing the Global War on Terror, which is a duty previously exercised by the Executive Branch.

(5) There can be no better way for the United States Supreme Court to exercise its new self-appointed war powers than to house the prisoners whom it has taken a greater role in overseeing.

SEC. 3. TRANSPORTATION AND DETAINMENT OF ENEMY COMBATANTS.

(a) Transportation- The Secretary of Defense shall immediately transport all enemy combatants detained in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to Washington, DC, where the United States Supreme Court shall hold the prisoners on the Court grounds, confined by adequate fencing.

(b) Shelter on Supreme Court Building Grounds- The Secretary of Defense, in conjunction with Justice Anthony Kennedy, the author of the majority opinion in Boumediene v. Bush, is directed to provide shelter for the detainees outside the United States Supreme Court building, but on the building grounds. The Secretary of Defense shall provide guards to watch over the prisoners and shall implement a system to ensure that the prisoners receive the appropriate amount of food and water. Should the detainees need the use of restroom facilities, they shall use the facilities inside the United States Supreme Court building. The Chief Justice, if the Chief Justice so chooses, may perform the duties of Justice Anthony Kennedy under this subsection.

(c) Guard Duty- If any of the nine Supreme Court justices desire at any time to stand guard over the prisoners, or to provide the prisoners with their meals or water, or both, then the justices shall be permitted to perform these functions whenever they want.

SEC. 4. ENFORCEMENT.

If either the Secretary of Defense or any justice of the Supreme Court refuses to carry out their duties under this Act, then their respective department or court shall receive funding for the next fiscal year at half the level of funding appropriated for the current fiscal year, or until such time as the Supreme Court no longer desires to micromanage the prisoners who have sworn to destroy our way of life.

ToDaZeD New Mommy

happy endings

Mom gave birth some time in the last day—couldn’t find hide nor hair of the calf and it was a month early so it was likely “not viable” and became a coyote dinner.  This little one was born about 10pm last night and now they’re going to the barn where Mommy and Baby will given a comfy, small place to get to know one another and become a pair.

multi-culti chicken roost

I overheard this on da raadio this am [they filled me in on the missing background] but as I was hearing the quote read, I had sudden mental images of Pelosi and Reid.

The mellifluous sounds of Multi-Culti:

Ron Artest:  “I understand what Yao said, but I’m still ghetto… That’s not going to change. I’m never going to change my culture. Yao has played with a lot of black players, but I don’t think he’s ever played with a black player that really represents his culture as much as I represent my culture. Once Yao Ming gets to know me, he’ll understand what I’m about. If you go back to the brawl, that’s a culture issue right there. Somebody was disrespecting me, so he’s got to understand where I’m coming from. People that know me know that Ron Artest never changed."

Yao’s cuuulturally inseensitive remark?

"Hopefully, he’s not fighting anymore and going after a guy in the stands,” Yao said.

Unless Congress approves a new rider - and the President signs into law a bill that includes the rider - the Congressional ban will expire on September 30, the end of the federal FY2008 fiscal year.

The Environmental Benefits Of Advanced Technology
According to the U.S. Department of Interior, offshore operators produced 7 billion barrels of oil from 1985 to 2001 with a spill rate of only .001%

In 2005, Hurricanes Katrina and Rita destroyed 115 Gulf of Mexico oil and gas platforms and damaged 535 pipeline segments, but there were no major oil spills attributed to either storm.

Today, nearly all Outer Continental Shelf operators are collaborating with the Minerals Management Service and other federal agencies to implement Safety and Environmental Management Programs (SEMP); voluntary, nonregulatory strategies designed to identify and reduce risks and occurrences of offshore accidents, injuries, and spills [U.S. Department of Energy]

Less than 1 percent of all oil found in the marine environment comes from offshore oil and gas development.  According to the National Academy of Sciences, the majority - 62 percent - is the result of natural seeps through the ocean floor.

Lots more factual ammo at the linky complete with citations and sources.

Me?  I’m waiting for Uh-bamessiah’s plan to revamp the world’s energy resources to cheap, plentiful unicorn farts.

What's wrong with this picture?

The laddy doth protest too much, methinks.

I thought it was just another example of Euro-fauning over the hawt noo blek sensation from Amerikka-- kinda like with jeans or line-dancing. I gave it an *eyeroll* and moved on.  But wait—there’s more blowback.

First, the set-up:  Unfortunately, Bild.de has yanked the story.  Or it timed out.  whatever. Bild doesn’t want to make any further comments on its own reporting.  *snerk*

I assembled the relevant bits below from around the IntarWebs:  [do Germans do irony>]

As thousands waited at the Sieges Saule monument in Berlin to hear Obama’s sensational speech, a BILD reporter met Barack all alone – in the gym! Here’s the incredible account of Judith Bonesky’s meeting…

Shortly after half past four and he actually arrives! Barack Obama is wearing a grey t-shirt, black tracksuit bottoms – and a great smile!

“Hi, how’s it going?“ asks Obama in his deep voice. My heart beats. “Very good, and you?” I say. Obama replies: “Very good, thank you!”

“Obama (with toned arms and a strong back) puts on his headphones for his iPod to listen to pop music. He hums quietly. Then he jumps on a fitness bike. He pushes three times on the pedals—but then can’t be bothered with it.

He goes and picks up a pair of 16 kilo [32 lb] weights and starts curling them with his left and right arms, 30 repetitions on each side. Then, amazingly, he picks up the 32 kilo [70 lb] weights! Very slowly he lifts them, first 10 curls with his right, then 10 with his left. He breathes deeply in and out and takes a sip of water from his 0,5 litre Evian bottle.

Shortly before five o’clock Obama comes over and sits directly next to my cross-trainer on the mat. First he does 10 sit-ups, then stretches. Then he looks at his watch and says to his bodyguard: “It’s time, let’s go.” Quickly I ask: “Mr. Obama, could I take a photo?”. “Of course!” he answers, before asking my name and coming over to stand next to me.

“My name’s Judith” I reply. “I’m Barack Obama, nice to meet you!” he says, and puts his arm across my shoulder. I put my arm around his hip – wow, he didn’t even sweat! WHAT A MAN!

*sends around barf bag collection bin*

Here’s the pic he allowed her to take.

image

“No Sweat?” I guess he’s got, whaa?, a drinking problem?
[ie; drool from the 0,5 Evian bottle - wouldn’t wanna be axcused of raising red racist herrings]

So a 20 - 25 minute work-out, no cardio, a couplafew curls with 70 lb weights [uh huh], some stretching and a foto-op.  That’s an Uh-bama “workout.”

Here’s the “more." Uh-bama did an interview with Maureen Dowd who has been accused of being a little snippy with him of late.  TNR describes his choice as “Obama Defangs Maureen Dowd?” with this coy pic:

image

Dowd challenges the Obamiester about his Euro-reception with such tough questions as:

“You must want a cigarette after that,”

*passes bin again*

Later, she gets down to business asking about the Bonesky article:

Obama marveled: “I’m just realizing what I’ve got to become accustomed to. The fact that I was played like that at the gym. Do you remember ‘The Color of Money’ with Paul Newman? And Forest Whitaker is sort of sitting there, acting like he doesn’t know how to play pool. And then he hustles the hustler. She hustled us. We walk into the gym. She’s already on the treadmill. She looks like just an ordinary German girl. She smiles and sort of waves, shyly, but doesn’t go out of her way to say anything. As I’m walking out, she says: ‘Oh, can I have a picture? I’m a big fan.’ Reggie takes the picture.”
[Reggie Love is Obama’s personal assistant]

I ask him if he found it a bit creepy that she described his T-shirt as smelling like “fabric softener with spring scent.”

He looked nonplused: “Did she describe what my T-shirt smelled like?”

Uh-bama thinks he was hustled for a foto by a little German guurl?  Who gushed over him?!?  And this is a “hustle,” how?

And if it’s that easy to hustle the Uh-bamamessiah, how could he possibly comprehend the UN, Ahmadinnerjihad and the Tally-wacker-ban Group?  Hell, this dufus probably thinks Pelosi really is “saving the planet.”

It’s The NY Post… I found no mention of the story elsewhere, which is unsurprising for so many ugly reasons.

Nevertheless:

...a “learning” trip...

“He looked like a man in a hurry,” a source close to Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said last week. “He was not interested in what we had to say.”

Still, many Iraqis liked Obama’s claim that the improved situation in Iraq owed to Iraqi efforts rather than the Gen. David Petraeus-led surge. In public and private comments, Obama tried to give the impression that the Iraqis would’ve achieved the same results even without the greater resources America has poured into the country since 2007.

In private, though, Iraqi officials admit that Obama’s analysis is “way off the mark.” Without the surge, the Sunni tribes wouldn’t have switched sides to help flush out al Qaeda. And the strong US military presence enabled the new Iraqi army to defeat Iran-backed Shiite militias in Basra and Baghdad.

Nevertheless, in public at least, no Iraqi politician wants to appear more appreciative of American sacrifices than the man who may become the next US president.
Iraqis were most surprised by Obama’s apparent readiness to throw away all the gains made in Iraq simply to prove that he’d been right in opposing the 2003 overthrow of Saddam Hussein. “He gave us the impression that the last thing he wanted was for Iraq to look anything like a success for the United States,” a senior Iraqi official told me. “As far as he is concerned, this is Bush’s war and must end in lack of success, if not actual defeat."

No confirmation from “other sources.” But interesting.  The Post has a wide readership.

...he can’t do what his antiwar base wants - declare an end to the War on Terror and the start of a period of love and peace in which “citizens of the world” build bridges between civilizations.

That’s why Obama is trying to adopt Afghanistan as “his” war.

...Obama seems to believe that only one war is possible at a time.

Well, those already on the Obama Unicorn Cart thought it was “greeeat!” Surprise.  Independents were 50/50, but the “whatever” factor is surprisingly high.  Lotsa bucks and lotsa risk for a “meh”.

No help in July, here… With a margin of error of about 3-5% that, there is a flatline.

Everything he gained from his “speech to half a million Germans” [according to Letterman] [*eyeroll*] he seems to have lost to ...uhm… something else.

So far, this is the best ol’ Dave can come up with in his push for OBambi.

Seems like a funny-once: apparently it’s the every-night thread.  Kinda lame for a “top professional comedian.”

More Flips from the Flop

...uh...erm...

Whispers confirms that Blackwater did handle the Democratic presidential candidate’s security in Afghanistan and helped out in Iraq. What’s more, Obama was overheard saying:  “Blackwater is getting a bad rap."
When Obama is asked about private security contractors, like the infamous Blackwater, he told Amy Goodman of Democracy Now that he would not remove these 140,000 private troops from Iraq. Adding it together Obama would leave as many as 225,000 troops and mercenaries in Iraq after his withdrawal is complete.
OBAMA: You are privatizing something that is what essentially sets a nation state apart, which is the monopoly on—on violence, uh, and to set those kinds of precedents I think will lead us over the long term into, uh, some troubled waters.

[introduced 12/7/2007] Mr. OBAMA (for himself, Mr. HAGEL, and Ms. CANTWELL) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the Committee on Foreign Relations:

the results of “HOPEfully"

At that historic homecoming in August 2006 Obama was greeted as a hero with thousands lining the dirt streets of Kogelo. He visited the Senator Obama Kogelo Secondary School built on land donated by his paternal grandfather. After addressing the pupils, a third of whom are orphans, and dancing with them as they sang songs in his honour, he was shown a school with four dilapidated classrooms that lacked even basic resources such as water, sanitation and electricity.

He told the assembled press, local politicians (who included current Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga), and students: “Hopefully I can provide some assistance in the future to this school and all that it can be.” He then turned to the school’s principal, Yuanita Obiero, and assured her and her teachers: “I know you are working very hard and struggling to bring up this school, but I have said I will assist the school and I will do so."

...The letter [Principal] Obiero refers to - dated 22 June 2005, signed by Obama ... says: “I am honoured that you have decided to rename the Kogelo School in my name.  The land that the school is built on was donated by my grandparents and I am proud to carry on the tradition of supporting the school.”

... 10 of the school’s 144 pupils are Obama’s relatives.  ... Kogelo [is] the place where his father and grandfather are buried. ...

...he wrote in his 1995 autobiography, Dreams from My Father, that Kogelo occupies a special place in his heart as being where he reconciled the diverse parts of himself - American and African, white mother and black father. Obama wrote how he fell to his knees, sobbing, between the graves of his father and grandfather at the family compound.

“When my tears were finally spent,” he wrote, “I felt a calmness wash over me. I felt the circle finally close. I realised that who I was, what I cared about, was no longer just a matter of intellect or obligation, no longer a construct of words. I saw that my life in America - the black life, the white life, the sense of abandonment I’d felt as a boy, the frustration and hope I’d witnessed in Chicago - all of it was connected with this small plot of earth an ocean away.”

...The situation in the school mirrors that of Kogelo village where the people live without water, electricity or access to proper healthcare and on average incomes of less than $1 a day.

...they ask for 8.2 million Kenyan shillings (approximately £65,000) to upgrade the school...

Recognize those highlighted phrases?

Well, $65,000 wouldn’t be too hard to raise—a couple of LimoLiberal fundraiser parties, with “colorful native dishes”, maybe some locals flown in to mingle with, some charming native music—*p00f* there’s yer school.  Right?  E. Z.

...Granting us access to the school and its records, Principal Obiero, 48, tells us: “Senator Obama has not honoured the promises he gave me when we met in 2006 and in his earlier letter to the school. He has not given us even one shilling. But we still have hope.”

Yet they remain diehard fans of the man who has put their rural community on the map and have even renamed the beer, called Senator, in his honour: locals now order “an Obama”.

...Mary Manasse, 40, who runs the Mama Siste Mini Shop selling staples such as bread and cow’s milk (packaged in old Coke bottles) says she has a photograph of Obama shaking hands with her on his 2006 visit.

“Back then I was looking after 40 orphans at the orphan centre,” she recalls. “We faced a desperate shortage of money and Obama told us that he especially liked special, dedicated projects like ours and wanted to help. We thought he would give funds to help our project but we got nothing. A few months later we were forced to shut down the orphan centre because of lack of funds. Just a million Kenyan shillings [£6,000] would have kept us going another year. I feel disappointed that he did not come through.”

..."Oh, but there will be a big party here when Obama wins,” [mango-seller Gladys Anyango, 60] adds. “We still have hope that he will bring electricity and build schools so the children have a good education. Maybe when he’s President of America, he’ll remember his roots and look after his community in Kenya."

They’ve been given “An Obama,” all righty.
