WTF?!?

is it something in the water?

Is it a meme?  Is it coinkidink?  organized stupidplethora of tools?  When da hell did my country turn into a turd-world nation run in circles by rejects from a Fellini Circus?

... Sunday, we will have an all day organizing session for plugging into the three tiered strategy to Crash the RNC.

Those attending the, “Bash Back! Convergence” organizing session for Crashing the RNC must agree to the Points of Unity put forward by Bash Back! Chicago.

Across The Line

multi-culti blinders

image

Meanwhile, in the ever-so-tooolerant city of T’rron’o;

Patrick Carnegie, [Dundas Square]’s manager of programming and events, said there were rules that governed how the square is to be used, including not belittling any identifiable group and conveying messages only in a positive way.

Free what, now?

The event was promoted in Chinese-language press as a rally to tell the “truth” about Tibet and “safeguard the reunification of the motherland.”

..."China and Chinese people have helped Tibetan people to improve human rights,” said one organizer who spoke in English.  “How can somebody who cannot even read or write understand anything about human rights? If they cannot read or write, how can they understand what they have lost in the past in Tibet? People were just blind faith to believe in their religion. They were controlled.”

Another speaker added, “Tibetan culture not only has not been damaged, but has been greatly protected, spread and developed.”

...a Tibetan refugee took to the stage waving a Tibetan flag. He was seized by a group of Chinese who dragged him away before police intervened to separate them. ... Angry Chinese turned on the Tibetan protesters, hollering “Dalai Lama die there!” “Dalai Lama lies!” “Liars, liars!” and “Leave Canada!”

They also sang communist party songs.

...Tibetans say the Chinese rally… was designed to incite hate against them.

More work for the Canadian “Human Rights Commission,” I fear....

ToDaZeD Standing Ovation

well, it’s a start...

Donald Tusk, Poland’s prime minister, became the first EU head of government to announce a boycott on Thursday and he was promptly joined by President Václav Klaus of the Czech Republic, who had previously promised to travel to Beijing.

...German chancellor, Angela Merkel, yesterday became the first world leader to decide not to attend the Olympics in Beijing.

...While announcing that German leaders were staying away from Beijing, [Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Germany’s foreign minister] denied they were boycotting or staging a political protest against the Chinese military and police campaign in Tibet and surrounding areas.

erm… what, then? The fried food?  The pollution?  The “organ banks?”

image
*clicky* for special version of the ‘torch run’

While expressing scepticism about a complete boycott, he did not rule one out. “This is not the right moment to talk about a boycott ... We should watch how the Chinese government deals with the situation in the next weeks and months."

Need some tulips for that tip-toe?

China had hoped to use the games to highlight its economic development and growing openness. But it is increasingly proving an opportunity for critics to bash China’s one-party political system, human rights abuses, treatment of minorities and tightly controlled media.

“Bash?!” I thought bash was reserved to describe undeserved criticism?

"We don’t support a boycott and don’t intend to boycott the opening of the games,” a British Foreign Office spokesman said. “None of the 27 [EU states] are [sic] calling for a boycott yet.”

The French foreign minister, Bernard Kouchner, has described the boycott proposal as “interesting”, while Sarkozy this week hedged his bets and said his attendance depended on China’s conduct.

Treating people “as if” they are behaving in a civilized manner only works if the concept of “Civilized” is one with which they are already familiar.

‘T seems that will soon include those artists formerly known as The British....

Slow Twist in a Light Breeze

Mookie proves his name

"Because of the religious responsibility, and to stop Iraqi blood being shed, and to maintain the unity of Iraq and to put an end to this sedition that the occupiers and their followers want to spread among the Iraqi people, we call for an end to armed appearances in Basra and all other provinces,"
al-Sadr’s statement said.
“Anyone carrying a weapon and targeting government institutions will not be one of us,”

...he said, pulling his hudna over his head.

*someone* gets it...

dhimmi *crickets*

It’s vewy, vewy qwiiet in Amsterdam the day after the release of Geert Wilders’ FITNA.

...said police spokesman Arnold Aben. “In fact, it’s quieter than usual here today. Sort of like a holiday."

“[The film] is not very original,” [erm… it’s quotes, ya dope.] Yusuf Altuntas, deputy chairman of a Muslim umbrella group based in The Hague, said in a phone interview. “We have seen many of these images before. [no shiite!] There was no shock so we don’t think there will be problems in Holland. ..."

oh.  wait…

Omar Bakri, the Libyan-based radical Muslim cleric who is barred from Britain, did not think the film was very offensive. “On the contrary, if we leave out the first images and the sound of the page being torn, it could be a film by the [Islamist] Mujahideen,”

Glooge is investing in Coal-powered InterToobes.  The GoogMonster is building 200,000 Sq. ft. of server farms at The Dales alone requiring tax exemptions, cheap energy promises and a city-built fiber optic system.  With the net gain of about 100 jobs!  [Yes, The Dalles is hydro-powered—but Dublin, Siberia and Shanghai ain’t.]

[.5 watts of cooling for every 1 watt of processing—and an estimated 500 watts per sq ft—hey!  that’d re-power Tacoma!]

Oh the Iron Emooooooh!

Hombre, por favor

Riot police have taken to the streets of several cities in Mexico to ... defend emo kids?
A series of attacks on dyed-hair, eye-makeup-wearing emo kids began in early March when several hundred people went on an emo-beating rampage in Querétaro, a town of 1.5 million about 160 miles north of Mexico City.

But the so-called emos are organizing, too. Last week, they demonstrated against the violence, pictured above, and Wednesday some met with police in Mexico City.
“They’re organizing to defend their right to be emo,”

“It’s a great clusterfuck for the American mind’s idea of Mexico,”...“This teaches the rest of the world that Mexico is not just a bunch of cactuses and sombreros."

ToDaZeD Things I Didn't Know

Old?  Ancient.

...The bond began with Kenyan labour leader Tom Mboya, an advocate for African nationalism who helped his country gain independence in 1963. In the late 1950s, Mboya was seeking support for a scholarship program that would send Kenyan students to US colleges - similar to other exchanges the US backed in developing nations during the Cold War with the Soviet Union. Mboya appealed to the state department. When that trail went cold, he turned to then-senator [John F.] Kennedy.

Kennedy, who chaired the senate subcommittee on Africa, arranged a $100,000 grant through his family’s foundation to help Mboya keep the program running.

“It was not a matter in which we sought to be involved,” Kennedy said in an August 1960 senate speech. “Nevertheless, Mr Mboya came to see us and asked for help, when none of the other foundations could give it, when the federal government had turned it down quite precisely. We felt something ought to be done.”

One of the first students airlifted to America was Barack Obama Sr, who married a white Kansas native named Ann Dunham during his US studies. Their son, born in 1961 and named for his father, has only once mentioned his Kennedy connection on the campaign trail. ...

A Chip Off the Old Blonde

faux outrage - line in the sand dirt

”....when I talk to my friends, one of their constant questions to me is, ‘What makes her such a strong leader?’, and they always bring up that scandal,” Strange said…

“It’s not something I asked to cause trouble, it was to show those people what makes Hillary so strong, and was an opportunity for Chelsea to show all the doubters how strong Hillary is,”...

The response—that showed “how strong a leader” Hillary Chelsea is?

"Wow, you’re the first person actually that’s ever asked me that question in the, I don’t know maybe, 70 college campuses I’ve now been to,”

“And I do not think that is any of your business," [Chelsea Clinton replied]

Bonus quote:

"It breaks my heart that I can’t vote for him,” Scott said of Obama. “It would be nice to have somebody who looks like me be president."

... But Scott said he’s a conservative and plans to vote for the Republican nominee, Sen. John McCain.

It's a Movement!

eww.

Seems like no one is doing, or is inclined to do, much “healing”—racial or otherwise—in the party of the Big D.  Since the Obama Messiah disintegrated into the Obama Mess, there is a substantial reason at hand superdelegates could cite for turning away from the pledged delegate vote.  So things are getting a little weird out there....

Apparently, Hillary is now a Christian NAZI?!? Well, according to The Nation...

there is, and has always been, a Plan B.

I thought about this the other night over dinner in a global metropolis not very far from your own with the widow and the sister of my late political mentor, Abbie Hoffman, ...

For us rabble-rousers out here that don’t consider any American political party to be “ours,” that scenario would put Plan B into play. We have no illusions that it has yet been surrendered or that we have yet taken it: Oh, we’d still go to Denver, not to enter the convention hall, but to reduce it to symbolic rubble from the outside.

Call it Plan Jericho: Like Joshua of the Old Testament and his troops who circled the halls of the city, marched around it silently for six days, on the seventh day marched around it seven times more and then, on cue, sounded a horn to end the silence and shout all at once, toppled the walls, entered the city, and “killed” (the Bible says so literally, but this time it will be politically, not mortally) every man, woman and superdelegate – including any imposter they might “nominate” by imposition – that did not participate in the certain walk-out protest that will occur under their scenario and instead chooses to remain inside the hall.

...won’t be the chaotic street protest and battle with the cops that occurred in ’68 ... Gandhian in its adherence to discipline and nonviolence, and more massive than anything maybe ever seen in the United States’ long history of social movements. If the party leaders choose to destroy democracy by denying the fair-and-square winner the nomination, democracy will then be duty bound to destroy the party.

...My eyes brighten at the opportunity, ...

This electoral campaign has created what we authentic radicals call the “objective conditions” for something even greater and more historic than a mere presidential election. ...
[italics mine—e-C]

or:  “If the game isn’t going my way, I feel ‘duty bound’ to destroy the playground.” I guess this is what comes of not keeping score in t-ball.

I’ll leave you with what is becoming my favorite quote of late:

A deep aversion to boredom and a consequent, indiscriminate love for novelty among the intellectual classes translated into a routinized iconoclasm and a thoroughgoing contempt for democracy, traditional morality, the masses, and the bourgeoisie, and a love for “action, action, action!” that still plagues the left today.  (How much of the practiced radicalism of the contemporary left is driven by the childish pranksterism they call being subversive?)
